The Gaia Hotel in Beitou, Taipei – Hot Spring Hotel Review 2026

For a unique Taiwan experience, make sure your next Taipei trip involves a hotel with your own hot spring bath. One of the best known hot spring resorts in Taiwan is Beitou in north Taipei.

Whilst popular with day-trippers, treat yourself to a stay at The Gaia, one of Beitou’s best known hot spring hotels (or just spend a day in their public hot springs in a gorgeous garden environment).

The Gaia Hotel in Beitou, Taipei - hot spring hotel

We stayed at The Gaia Beitou for two nights in March 2026 and enjoyed exploring Beitou by day and relaxing in our own private in-room hot spring bath by night.

From facilities to food, hot-springs to nearby hotspots, here is our review of The Gaia Beitou – we were hosted by The Gaia.

Why stay at The Gaia?

There are many large resorts in Beitou but perhaps the best known and well reviewed is The Gaia Hotel (it currently has a 4.5 rating on Google and 4.6 on Tripadvisor).

Formerly the Pacific Hot Spring Hotel, The Gaia has been open since 2015 after extensive renovations and is one of the best located properties in Beitou, with lots of soothing onsite hot spring options.

And even if you don’t plan on staying in Beitou, The Gaia has public hot spring day-time and dining options that you can book on Klook.

From funky features to workspaces and contemporary design like its Instagrammable (The) Library, the Gaia is ideal for a relaxing Taiwan vacation or work trip.

Whether you want to relax in the hot-spring, work out in the gym or just enjoy the restaurant, your time at The Gaia can be as relaxing as you want to make it.

The Gaia local neighborhood

Beitou is Taipei’s hot spring capital! Hop on the MRT from Taipei and in less than 20 minutes, you’ll arrive in Beitou, known for its lush greenery, thermal springs and public baths.

Hot spring bathing in this area dates back to the Japanese era, which is why the district is so full of character and incredible architecture – even the modern Beitou Library is one of the most idyllic spots in Taipei. All this is just a short walk from The Gaia, as are most Beitou attractions.

Beitou Hot Spring Museum

Beitou things to do and highlights include Beitou Thermal Valley (free), the Hot Spring Museum plus Beitou Market. And as you’d expect from a natural hot spring area, much of the town smells of sulfur (but you’ll soon get used to it).

Beitou Thermal Valley

Please note as of April 2026, the Beitou Public Hot Springs are still closed for renovations so this is all the more reason to consider a hot spring session at The Gaia.

Also when we stayed at The Gaia, we did several short hikes on nearby Phoenix Mountain, like Junjianyan Trail – the views at the top and of Beitou below are stunning.

Getting to The Gaia in Beitou / hotel shuttle service

The Gaia offers a regular shuttle service to and from both Beitou and Xinbeitou MRT stations (both are on the Tamsui-Xinyi MRT line and about 20 minutes from downtown Taipei).

It is also an approximately 22 minute car journey from Taipei Main Station and around a 40 minute journey from Taipei Taoyuan Airport. Check out these private transfers from Taoyuan Airport with Klook >

Tamsui-Xinyi MRT line

The Gaia Hotel hourly shuttle operates daily from 8.45am and does a regular loop from the hotel to Beitou MRT Station then Xinbeitou MRT station before returning to the hotel. Note the area the hotel is in is quite hilly in parts so the shuttle is a great option or just grab a taxi.

There are lots of staff to assist you as you arrive and they will assist you with check–in and your bags.

As you arrive, the striking centerpiece you’ll notice at The Gaia is ‘The Library’ which is their 4-storey tall book wall design centrepiece with a huge collection of books from around the world.

Our Gaia Beitou room

During our March 2026 stay, we enjoyed two nights in a Gaia Qiyan Double Room; which has its own mini private hot spring bath in the room using local sulphur spring water!

We used this every night and it was a equipped with a traditional wooden bath ladle – a handy shower is located just next to the bath.

The room also has premium Bvlgari bath amenities and a Dyson hair dryer – this is also the only hotel we’ve stayed in in Taipei that has its own water purification system to help eliminate the need for water bottles.

The room is equipped with a huge flatscreen TV and Wi-Fi was speedy – all the usual amenities you’d expect are here too including a fridge and coffee / tea making facilities.

We also really appreciated the sweet treats that were in our room when we arrived.

The Gaia hot springs and swimming pool

One of the main reasons to stay at the Gaia is the access to natural hot-springs either in your own private room or via their public hot springs.

The Gaia have some beautiful public hot springs set in a garden environment that hotel guests can use for free. They are gender-separated nude baths so we don’t have any of our own photos to show you (we have included the official hotel photos instead).

There is also a sauna, steam room and hot/cold pools. The swimming pools were closed during our stay for its 3 month long yearly maintenance (January to March usually) so we’ve also included the hotel photos to show you what it looks like.

If you don’t fancy staying the night in Beitou, you can book a private or public hot spring experience at The Gaia with a meal or afternoon tea. Check out the deals on Klook >

Gaia Restaurants

There are several restaurants and dining rooms at The Gaia and we ate at their Piacere (Western Restaurant) both mornings for breakfast.

The Piacere hosts a semi buffet breakfast every morning from 6.30am to 10am – you can choose as many dishes as you like from a small selection of meals and then select more food from the buffet.

You can even opt to start your day with some bubbles by helping yourself to complimentary sparkling wine at breakfast.

The buffet breakfast at The Gaia Taipei was good, we would usually get egg dishes and tried the Japanese style pork cutlet – other dishes included braised beef ribs, egg tofu with teriyaki sauce and Vietnamese seafood pho.

We then enjoyed coffee, salads and cooked meats from the extensive buffet.

Additional onsite restaurants at The Gaia include Qiyan ONE Chinese restaurant, Moon Shabu Shabu and The Gaia Wine Reserve.

If you would rather dine offsite, there are many restaurants within walking distance of the hotel including a branch Moon Moon Food 雙月食品社, a popular Taiwanese chain restaurant (their food is pretty good and inexpensive – try their truffle noodles, you will not be disappointed)!

Co-working / business center

As we write lots of taiwanderers.com articles and hotel reviews like this while in Taiwan, we really appreciated the small business center and co-working area on level 2 to catch up on our writing.

Open from 7am to 10pm daily and a quiet space to work, you can also print documents here and read local magazines and newspapers – coffee facilities were sometimes available.

Ready to book?

For a relaxing stay in Beitou with natural hot springs on tap and within walking distance of all the main attractions, The Gaia is a good place to unwind in Taipei.
