Does Taiwan celebrate Christmas?
Christmas in Taiwan isn’t an official / public holiday but many Christmas events and markets take place, usually started from mid November until late December.
These are enjoyed by tourists, expats and locals alike and there is a small Christian population in Taiwan (less than 10%).
Just don’t expect any snow in Taiwan at Christmas – unless it is the artificial snow cannon at Taipei Christmasland!

1. Taipei Christmasland 2026 – Circus Carnival
TBC but expected to be mid November 2026 until late December 2026
Taipei Christmasland is back for 2026, bigger and better than ever before. It has won numerous awards including ‘Top 10 Must Visit Christmas Destinations in the World’ and last year’s theme in 2025 was “Circus Carnival”.
Open from mid November until late December, Taipei Christmasland in Banqiao is one of Taiwan’s biggest Christmas events, organized by the New Taipei City Tourism and Travel Department.
Last year, immersive installations and several themed Christmas zones were found at Citizen’s Square, Civic Plaza, Banqiao Station Square, New Banqiao Central Park, Banqiao Bus Station and Fuzhong Plaza.
On opening night last year in 2025, Taipei Christmas had a spectacular circus-themed show as well as a large lantern as a colossal Christmas centerpiece.
Over the entire 45 day Taipei Christmasland celebrations, there will also be a European style alpine Christmas village and a German Christmas Market.
Other special events at Taipei Christmasland last year included a special orchestra concert on Christmas Day itself and a celebrity Christmas concert on the weekend on 13 and 14 December 2025.

2. German Christmas Market in Taipei (three locations)
Still TBC but expected to be held in 3 locations (if the same as 2025)
- Late November 2026 at Taipei Expo Park
- Early December 2026 at Taipei Christmasland
- Mid December 2026 at Taoyuan Arts Plaza
Taipei’s German Christmas Markets are back for 2026 – you’ll see a few of these in Taiwan in December, mainly at malls.
Taiwan’s German Trade Office Taipei (GTO) has been organising the Taipei German Christmas markets since 2020.
Taipei’s German Christmas markets feature festive foods like real German sausages, pork knuckles and Christmas stollen, as well as warm mulled wine.
New for 2025, there is a third location at Taoyuan Arts Plaza.

From German beer (prost!) to Gluhwein (mulled wine), pretzels to Christmas presents, have a European style Christmas celebration in Taipei!

3. Xinyi District Taipei Christmas
TBC but expected to be mid November 2026 to 1 January 2027
Other than the Taipei Christmasland event in Banqiao, the collective Christmas clout of all the Xinyi shopping malls make this one of the nicest places in Taipei for Christmas lights and gift shopping.

Last year’s Xinyi Christmas theme (2025) was a Snoopy Christmas with Charlie Brown and co appearing as huge lanterns around Xinyi.
Taipei shopping malls in Xinyi like Breeze, BELLAVITA and Taipei 101 mall light up and usually offer seasonal sales and purchase promotions. There are around 15 shopping malls in the area all with their own take on a Taipei Christmas display.
Lighting up until 1 January 2027, one of the best Taipei Christmas tree displays in 2026 will hopefully be at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi A11 with a light tunnel and huge illuminated LED Christmas tree.
Check out the Taipei Travel Xinyi Christmas page for more details >

4. Taipei Main Station Christmas Tree 2026
TBC but expected to be mid November until January 2027
If you are travelling via Taipei Main Station this winter, be sure to check out the towering Taipei Main Station Christmas tree which is located on the main atrium.

For Christmas 2025 last year, Taipei Main Station had a 20 metre high Christmas tree with a cute carousel below it with Taiwan cartoon characters like the TRA Taiwan black bear dressed as train driver plus big presents and even a miniature train.
Depicting a ‘Happy Holidays’ message, there is also a regular light show where the main lights dim and the tree illuminates as the characters ride up and down the carousel.
5. Taipei City Plaza Christmas lights
TBC but expected to be November 2026 to 1 January 2027
What is better than Christmas lights in Taipei? The combination of xmas lights with Taipei 101 glimmering in the background!
One of the best spots to view Taipei 101 at any time of year is Taipei City Plaza.
In fact, it is where we went to watch the Taipei 101 fireworks on National Day (10 October) – the first time fireworks have been set off from the tower on a non New Year’s Eve night (it was cool).
Taipei City Plaza at Christmas is awash with winter lights and a huge Christmas tree, competing with the dazzling lights of Taipei 101 in the background.
6. Christmas at Uni President Mall Taipei (theming to be announced)
TBC but expected to be mid November until late December 2026
An Italian Christmas in Taipei! Last year in 2025 Uni President Mall (near Taipei City Hall) and 7-Eleven recreated a Venice themed Christmas complete with gondolas in front of the shopping center.

Every Saturday in December (excluding 13 December), there was a show on the outdoor stage between 5pm and 5.30pm plus indoors, there is more theming including an Italian art show on level 2 of the mall.
The Venetian scene outside the mall also lights up in the evening so this is a fun free Taipei Christmas activity day or night.
7. Taipei Christmas at Miramar Mall
TBC but expected to be November until late December 2026
Last year in 2025, the biggest shopping center in Taipei, Miramar Mall had an ‘Avatar 3’ Christmas. Outside the main entrance, Miramar Mall installed a rather ‘cool’ 12 meter high Christmas tree with Avatar jellyfish (previously, it has been themed ‘Wicked’ and the year before, it was a Wonka themed Christmas tree).

Every Friday and Saturday at Miramall Mall plus Christmas Day in Taipei, there are fun festive activities like painted snowball lantern workshop or DIY fairy wing classes (a small fee applies).

8. Gongguan Water Park and Gongguan Christmas 2026
TBC but expected to be late November 2026 to late December 2026
Gongguan’s Taipei Water Park will light up this Christmas in Taipei, launching a festival of illuminations until late December 2026. Last year in 2025, the water park lit up nightly from 4.30pm to 8pm and was a great place for seasonal selfies and Christmas photo souvenirs.
Also last year a special seasonal concert took place on Saturday 20 December 2025, featuring famous Taipei musical groups (and maybe even Santa Claus himself).
The 2024 Christmas theme was “Water Bo Jiyan – Centennial Movement”, which includes a huge Christmas tree plus 3 large-scale illuminations, based on local Taiwanese fairytales.
A fun thing to do in Taipei at night, the water park is transformed into a ‘sea’ of color, with reflecting Christmas lights and festive concerts.
Check out the official Taipei Water Park website for more details (many events are still TBC).
P.S. If you want a VERY ‘merry’ Christmas in Taipei, one of Taiwan’s biggest 7-Eleven bars is just across the road from Taipei Water Park (7-ELEVEN 博源門市) in the Gongguan / University District (NTU). Local students congregate here for cheap beers and this boozy 7-Eleven has a huge indoor seating area packed at weekends with supping students.

9. 2026 Wintertime Festival at Songshan Creative and Cultural Park
TBC but expected to be November until late December 2026
One of Taipei’s best cultural hubs, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Xinyi is a chock full of cool coffee shops, craft shops and pop-up Christmas events as well as the permanent home of the Taiwan Design Museum.
Last year in 2025 Songshan Creative and Cultural Park hosted a winter themed festival featuring Snoopy and Friends from 22 November to 28 December 2025. It included a Snoopy food pop-up shop.

This 6 week Christmas event will see several festive pop-ups and local cultural experiences plus lots of Christmas bargains and sales. With an emphasis on locally sourced goods, some of the best gift shops here include Design Pin, Unsimple Leather Goods and the rather divine HMS Beagle gift shop.
Another great place to get Taipei and Taiwan Christmas gifts at Songshan Creative Park is the Eslite Spectrum Songyan, one of the best bookshops and stationery stores in Taipei.

10. Da’an Forest Park & Yongkang Christmas 2026 / 2027
TBC but expected to be late November 2026 to 1 January 2027
We love Da’an Forest Park in the summer months and have written extensively about it here >
It is a wonderful place to visit during Christmas in Taipei as there is a light display that lights up the local area every evening from 5pm to 10pm.
Last year there was a Christmas Market in Da’an Park from Christmas Market on 12 to 14 December 2025 plus Christmas caroling on 13 December.
On 20 December 2025, there was a Christmas Yongkang Carnival in Yongkang Park from 2pm to 6pm which included live performances, a specialty market, hands-on activities and more.

11. 2026 Colorful Christmas Fun in Taipei
TBC but expected to be late November 2026 to early January 2027
Last year at Christmas in Taipei, 15 different Taipei shopping malls and department stores teamed up to create over 80 magical light displays to fill the city with a festive joy.
Across the city, there were stamp-collecting activities, super selfie spots and exciting Christmas themed performances. There was also a Christmas competition to win 100,000 TWD department store gift vouchers!! ️

12. New Year’s Eve 2026/2027 in Taipei (theming tbc)
Once Christmas in Taipei is done and dusted for another year, try to stick around for the Taipei New Year’s Eve fireworks which ignite from Taipei 101 on the stroke of midnight, 1 January 2027.
Last year during the 2025 / 2026 holiday period, Taipei 101 began the year-end festivities with a theme, “SPARK 101,” creating a double-year festive celebration spanning Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and Taiwan Lunar New Year.

From 27 December to 1 January 2026, Taipei 101 hosted different themed light shows every night.
On New Year’s Eve / 31 December 2025, Taipei 101 will present a 3-minute light show – last year it was themed “Taiwan’s Invisible Heroes,” celebrating local heroes before the Taipei 101 New Year’s fireworks erupt on the stroke of midnight.

One of the biggest New Year’s Eve firework displays in the world, Taipei is the perfect place to cheer in 2027!
One of the best locations to see the fireworks is Taipei City Plaza or try one of these Elephant Mountain / Xiangshan viewpoints – although you’ll likely need to get there VERY early to get a good viewing spot!

If you’re traveling to Taiwan with kids, you can sit on Santa’s lap at the Regent Taipei. Santa usually sets up beside the largest Christmas tree in Taipei, inside the hotel.
The tree is 15 meters tall and has over 27,000 bulbs! I’ll add his specific sitting times when the hotel announces them in December.
