One of Taiwan’s best night markets, Taichung’s Feng Chia Night Market is one fantastic foodie find, located very close to Feng Chia University.
With around 200 pop-up stalls that open every night plus many permanent clothes, tech and amusement arcades lining the street, Feng Chia is a large night market with some incredible foods and fun carnival style games.

How to get to Feng Chia Night Market
Located a little way out from Taichung Station / HSR and downtown, Feng Chia Night Market is located in Taichung’s Xitun District on Wenhua Road, near Feng Chia University.
The whole area is full of bright neon lights, big shops and most importantly, lots of tasty treats.
To get from Feng Chia Night Market from Taichung Station, it is around 6km away and takes about 35 to 45 minutes by bus depending on the traffic. Take buses 5, 25, 27, 35 or 45 for a direct journey there.
From Taichung HSR Station to Feng Chia Night Market, take bus 160 for the most direct route (the journey takes less than 30 minutes).
Feng Chia Night Market is pretty big, with around 1km of stalls and permanent shops located along Wenhua Road. The biggest concentration of food vendors is along the stretch of Wenhua Road between Fuxing Road and Fengjia Road (Feng Chia).
You’ll find the south entrance to Feng Chia Night Market here on Google Maps – note most of the stalls are about a 10 minute walk into the market (the south end is a little more sparse for food stalls).
If you are approaching from the north of the market, head to the Hi Life Feng Chia Night Market branch here on Google Maps and you’ll soon see the start of the market.

Feng Chia Night Market opening hours
Feng Chia Market is open from 1pm to 1am daily* – the Wenhua Road closes to traffic from 1pm daily (well, apart from the odd moped).
*Please note that most of the Feng Chia Night Market food stalls don’t fully open until around 5.30pm onwards and most have closed by midnight.
The night market is also free admission – but brings lots of cash to enjoy lots of food and play on the claw machines and arcade machines.

Arriving at Feng Chia Night Market in Taichung
The best advice we can give is to arrive hungry and there must be over 200 food stalls at night – there is something to suit all budgets and tastes.
We reckon you can eat really well here from several stalls for less than NT$300 (£7 or $9 USD) depending on how hungry you are.
As the market is located near to the Feng Chia University campus, many students volunteer and help out on busy nights offering help and providing maps – you’ll see them wearing yellow vests and carrying ‘English information’ boards.
They also have a help-desk at the market located roughly here – to note we visited Feng Chia Night Market on a Friday evening so the help desk might only be here at weekends / busy times.
The atmosphere at the market is great and we’d highly rate it as one of the best night markets in Taiwan.
If you’ve been to the Gongguan Night Market in Taipei, this is the same kind of set-up; authentic food, lots of local visitors, very few tourists and lots of hungry students who know the best stalls.
Feng Chia Night Market is fantastic as the food stalls have to be good quality and value for money or the local population and students wouldn’t keep returning.

Foods to try at Feng Chia Night Market
Honestly, we cannot recall such an epic selection of Taiwanese street-foods or international foods – this really is the best night market in Taichung; damn tasty too!
On our most recent visit to Feng Chia Night Market, we spent about two hours one Friday night in October 2024. We arrived around 6.30pm after being dropped off from this Gaomei Wetlands KKDay half day tour and whilst a little quiet at the start, by 7.30pm it was bustling.
As the students were on campus, the road quickly filled up with young and old eating lots of amazing food.
The biggest queues and most popular food at Feng Chia Night Market is usually the smaller snacky stuff.
For instance, the biggest queue of the night on our visit was the sweet potato stall (selling candied sweet potatoes and sweet potato balls) at the northern entrance to the market – although it may have been popular because it was literally the first stall or because prices were cheap. A small portion of sweet potato balls cost just NT$40 for 10 balls or NT$50 for the candied version.
Another busy stall was the ‘Michelin Bib Gourmand’ awarded pork pepper bun stall (along Yinghe Street here on Google Maps) called 帝鈞碳烤胡椒餅 / Dijun Grilled Pepper Pan Cake. They literally only sell the pork buns (NT$60) and the queue was huge.
This is also a great place to try Taiwan dishes like grilled or fried mushrooms (usually from around NT$100 for a MASSIVE portion), pork rolls with scallion, flame grilled beef cubes plus the usual ‘favorites’ like stinky tofu.
One of the most popular stalls was the Jin Sha Clam stall, which was one of the cutest food stands we saw all night with a lovely themed seating area. It has been on several local TV programmes and a small bowl of clams starts from NT$100.
Another fun stall was the drinks station themed like a Taiwan gasoline / petrol station – how do they think of these ideas?
