Taipei Workshops and Cooking Classes – Top 10+ Taipei DIY Experiences

Time for some DIY, Taiwanese style. From cooking classes to candle making, gemstones to glassblowing, there are some top Taipei workshops to choose from. And getting crafty doesn’t have to be expensive, with workshops starting from NT$800.

We love Taipei workshops and in 2026, we’ve already cooked up a storm in the kitchen, made xiaolongbao and boba tea at Cookinn, perfect pineapple cakes at the Kuo Yuan Ye Museum, plus came home with ‘scent-sational’ souvenirs from the Taiwan Incense Workshop.

Be it blending your own perfume, having a Taipei throwdown at a pottery class or just making rugs or terrariums to take home, there are lots of epic experiences to enjoy in Taiwan’s capital – we just wish there was somewhere we customise and create a ‘Taiwanderers’ Taiwan LV bag!

Taiwan cooking class

If you are a fan of Taiwan’s tasty xiao long bao soup dumplings, beef noodle soup or gua bao and want to recreate the dishes at home, then check out a Taiwan cooking class like Cookinn.

They run a variety of cooking classes where you can learn to make Taiwanese cuisine from scratch with locations in Ximending and Zhongshan.

We were lucky enough to attend a special xiao long bao and beef noodle cooking class, hosted by Cookinn’s founder Chelsea Tsai, author of the cook book Taste Taiwan – read about the class in our TTT Facebook group >

Prices for the main cooking classes start from NTD$2,300 for adults (and NT$1,955 for children aged 7 to 11), and the lessons are conducted in English, Japanese and Mandarin languages.

They also run other cheaper and shorter baking classes where you can make pineapple cakes, pork pepper buns, scallion pancakes and nougat crackers.

Pineapple cake making class

Try a 2 hour pineapple making class at the Kuo Yuan Ye Museum of Cake and Pastry in the Shilin neighbourhood.

We did this earlier this year – the class is super popular with families and is well organised with instructions explained in multiple languages. It tends to get fully booked out weeks in advance.

Once you’ve made your pineapple cakes and they are baking in the oven, they take you to the museum upstairs and include some activities such as throwing the red, crescent-shaped wooden blocks known as jiaobei (筊杯) and trying on some traditional costumes.

When the cakes are ready, you get to wrap them and place them in a gift box, whilst enjoying tea and snacks. This is a really fun family activity and you can book the experience on Klook >

At $NT640 per person (£15 / $20USD) or just NT$720 for an adult and child, we thought this was great value for money and your homemade pineapple cakes are a great souvenir to take home.

Taiwan incense workshop

For a unique and ‘scent-sational’ souvenir from Taipei, take a fun and fragrance-filled workshop.

Hosted by our Taiwan Travel Tips Facebook group member Michael whose family have been making incense for over 70 years, this is a two hour hands-on scent session combined with snacks and an interesting intro to incense.

Prices start from NT$800 which we thought was really good value (especially as you get to take home such quality incense as a unique and practical reminder of this Taipei workshop in Gongguan.

We joined Michael in his family’s store for a wonderful workshop where we got to learn about traditional Taiwanese incense and how to make and blend it ourselves.

Choosing from a base of sandalwood or agarwood, we combined the ingredients based on our own scent preferences before making our very own incense ‘paste’ which soon dries so you can take it home.

Michael is a great host and he also gave us lots of local insights and Taipei tips, including some great Gongguan places to go.

Ximending Versammlen Pottery Workshop

Although most people think of Ximending as loud and brash, there are quite a few cultural gems and hidden spots located in the side-streets.

We’d recommend a day-trip to Yingge, Taiwan’s pottery and ceramics capital and only a 30 minute ride from nearby Taipei Main Station. However, if you don’t have time and want a really unique Taiwan souvenir (or just want to ‘kiln’ some time), make your own pottery at 抱瓶庵藝事空間, located on Google Maps here >

As part of this Ximending pottery workshop at Baoping’an Art Space, you get to choose what you want to create and throw plus the classes include drinks and dessert.

They also offer Taipei children’s pottery experience where kids can unleash creativity for 2 hours, learning how to use the potters wheel, mould the clay and create pots

MixGene Custom Jewelry Studio

Located on Dihua Street in Taipei’s Dadaocheng District, MixGene is a fun hands-on workshop experience located in a vintage studio.

Create your own custom silver or gemstone ring – or make a perfect pendant from scratch – some courses are also available in English. You can even add your own personalized engravings or text – free snacks and drinks are provided as you build your bling rings.

Glassblowing at MUJI Miramar

Recently reopened in Spring 2026 after a major refit, Muji’s Taipei ‘Glass Lab’ has now reopened.

For NT$980, you can create your own glassware with the help of MUJI’s experienced glassblower – choose the shape, colour and pattern and help as the instructor brings your gorgeous glassware and veritable vase to life.

The whole process takes about 30 minutes and you get a ringside seat so close, you can feel the intense heat.

As well as being able to do your own glassblowing, MUJI’s Taipei Lab offers glass products for purchase, and carries out recycling activities, aiming to contribute to resource circulation and recycling.

Or try this alternative classic perfume 5 elements blending workshop starting from NT$899.

Located on Dihua Street, there are two different classes you can take – you can make a bubble tea & soup dumpling candle combo, or a beer & soup dumpling candle combo, each costing NT$1,280. Classes are available English, Korean and Mandarin.

Experience pottery through the slab-building method and understand the basic production process of ceramics.

Hosted in small class sizes and available in English, this is a top Taipei workshop  where you can create your own unique  cups, bowls, or small plates.

The studio will polish, trim, and glaze your creations and all materials, tools and kiln refiring are included.
