Taipei Vegetarian Buffets
Fruitful Food 果然匯
Recommended by us (Neil and Caroline)
Fruitful Food (果然匯) is one of the best known Taipei vegetarian buffet chains (so much so, that you usually need to book in advance).
Based on the Fruitful Food we went to in Tianmu, there were several stations of hot and cold vegetarian food which you serve yourself plus a kitchen where chefs were cooking up creations like braised vegetarian beef soup with udon noodles (very good), vermicelli with black sesame oil, spicy hot bean curd, crispy risotto cake with creamed corn or tempura mushrooms.

Honestly, there was a lot of food, from vegetarian sushi and vegan nigiri to steamed buns, turnip cake to salads plus lots of dishes like tofu pastry, baked vegetables with miso sauce and steamed mushroom soup (served in cute little kettles).
Make sure you arrive on an empty stomach. Prices start from NT$638 each (not cheap) including unlimited food and soft drinks.

Minder Vegetarian in QSquare Mall
Suggested by Maranie Lin
“Minder Vegetarian was amazing. It’s cafeteria-style and sold by weight, all vegan. So many options and all of them were great.”

A second vote from Pamela Ward: “Delicious variety of everything vegetarian. Busy last month when we made our usual visit to Taipei”.
Minder Vegetarian Taipei can be found at the B3F food court of Q Square mall, near Taipei Main Station. There are other Minder Vegetarian Taipei branches too including Xindian.
Miao Yuan vegetarian restaurant 妙緣素食館
Recommended by us (Neil and Caroline)
If you’re craving veggies or an inexpensive vegetarian meal in Taipei, there is a cluster of veggie buffets and restaurants near Taipei Main Station along Huaining Street.

After a night of beef noodles and pork buns, we wanted something without meat the next day – we usually head to ‘Miao Yuan’ vegetarian buffet as it is cheap with a good variety of dishes.
Two huge plates (along with rice) came to $NT235 for two of us (so roughly $3.60 USD or £2.75 each). It is also a good place to escape the rain as you can sit in!

Taipei Vegan Ramen
Yǒu Miànzi Shū Shí Liàolǐ 有麵子蔬食料理
Recommended by Jeremy Jangord
“When you get straight down to it, this is my favorite restaurant in Taiwan, particularly for smaller groups, one on one meetups, or solo dining.
有麵子 makes some of the best vegan ramen I’ve ever had, anywhere, and I’d put it on par with even iconic spots like T’s Tan Tan in Japan.

They offer a variety of unique, flavorful broths (creamy oat milk, rich soy sauce, spicy Thai, fragrant pesto, Korean kimchi, caramelized onion), perfectly cooked noodles (you can even note how how firm you want them – Japanese style) and tons of fresh ingredients and protein to round out each bowl.
The chefs are absolute wizards with tofu skin, and the secret recipe tofu skin (祕製燒排) in the soy sauce ramen (my fav) is ridiculously good. They also batter and fry that bad boy into their signature Sichuan Crispy Cutlet (椒麻G排), another fav. I would take these over any vegetarian faux meats any day.
Also offer excellent curry and rice dishes, lots of delicious fried sides, excellent oat milk milk tea, and occasionally flip the menu on certain days to a western/fusion style pasta dishes.
And last but not least, the service is amazing. Always energetically warm, friendly and welcoming and a big part of why I’m happy to go back time and time again”.

Taipei / Taiwan Buddhist Temples
Several members suggested going to Buddhist temples for vegetarian food
One such temple is Fo Guang Shan Anguo Temple 安國寺吉祥滴水書坊 in the Beitou district, suggested by Anna Sueng (map).
Fo Guang Shan Anguo Temple has a vegetarian restaurant open Wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 5:40pm with an English menu – just tick the menu card as to what you want. All the food is prepared by the monks from the temple.
Vegetarian Dishes include vegetable baked rice, baked pumpkin, lasagna, Thai style noodles, dried lion’s mane mushroom noodles, tofu dishes and an extensive drinks menu – someone also said it was the best 麻酱面 (sesame sauce noodles) they ever had.
TTT group member Si K-t also recommended Yuandao Guanyin Temple Coffee 緣道觀音廟道咖啡 in Tamsui district (map). They serve Taipei temple vegetarian food, coffee, Chinese herbal tea, juice, desserts and frozen treats and it is next to a gorgeous walking trail.
Other suggestions were Dharma Drum Mountain Nung Chan Monastery in Beitou (map) – recommendation from Wilfred Lee.
Tofu Pudding Shops in Taipei
Bau-shui Tofu Pudding
Recommended by Kevin Wu
“Every Yong Kang food guide is going to recommend Bau-shui Tofu Pudding (which is a Jiaoxi transplant), but the locals know that walking a few more blocks will lead you to the original Mata Tofu Pudding (山海豆花).

This little shop only has a few seats, but the wait is never long. If you’re not familiar with dohua, it’s a great opportunity to try a classic Taiwanese desert away from the lines and crowds.
From red bean boba, black sesame, crushed peanuts, to dragon fruit, these are a wonderful way to cool off in the summer months.”
Please note some of the puddings here are not vegetarian friendly as they contain gelatin so do check with staff beforehand.
Serenity 祥和蔬食
Recommended by Phaedra Fang (and several others)
A Taipei specialty Sichuan Vegetarian Restaurant chain in Taipei, Michelin Bib Gourmand recommended for 8 years. It has two branches – Zhenjiang and Qingcheng.
“NT$500 per person can get you really full. The only problem is you can’t eat alone”
Other recommended Taipei vegetarian and vegan restaurants
I Jy Sheng (Taipei vegan pastries)
Recommended by Lani San Antonio
“I Jy Sheng is a great place for vegan pastries including pineapple cakes. I visited Taiwan a few months ago with my friend who is Vegan and she loved these. I also bought a few boxes for my veg friends at home”.
Yang Shim (Taipei vegetarian dim sum)
Recommended by Vivi and Lani San Antonio
“Yang Shin Vegetarian Songjiang 養心茶樓 蔬食飲茶 松江店 – the best vegetarian (not vegan) xiao long bao I’ve ever had” – Vivi.
“We also enjoyed eating all the vegetarian/vegan dim sum at Yang Shin” – Lani.
上善豆家 Delisoys
Recommended by Tiffany Ang
“They have quite a few Delisoys restaurants around the islands, I’ve tried 3 of them across Taipei, Linkou, and Yilan. My favorite one would be the one in Yilan because of the architecture and the countryside one is very spacious.
The one in Taipei is very city center, easy to locate. All need advance reservation because Taiwanese love them too!
The menu in Taipei and Yilan is slightly different; overall both menus are amazing! but if I have some time for a getaway, I’d definitely choose Yilan”
UncleQ by Veganday 純植物料理
Recommended by Beck Chow
A vote for UncleQ by Veganday 純植物料理 near Yong Kang street.
“The dishes are more creative, modern take on international cuisine, nice blend of east/west variants.”
Chao 炒炒新亞洲蔬食
Recommended (sort of) by Tiffany Ang
“I enjoy this place a lot because it’s the typical Taiwanese stir fry where we sit with friends and laugh and chill out – this is the vegetarian version of it!
However, there’s a saying in Taiwan that vegetarian food can be quite greasy in the making to make food stick together – my tummy didn’t feel well both time after dining here due to its greasiness, you don’t feel the greasiness you eat it, but you’d feel it afterwards at midnight – in summary, I enjoy it a lot!
It may need a reservation as it’s a hotspot for Taiwanese as well!”
Top Taipei Vegetarian Restaurants
Recommended by Shannon Young
“Brother Su – everything is delicious from noodles to rice combos to desserts. I love their stinky tofu, dou zha waffles, “egg” tarts, and homemade pineapple vinegar. Taiwanese homey food vegan, family run.
Ooh Cha Cha, Plants, and Green Room are all more Western, very solid meals and flavors. Green Room had amazing vegan tiramisu.
Yang Shin has vegan and vegetarian dim sum (yamcha).
Hip Pun is a vegan bakery serving Taiwanese breads. Nice Cream has excellent vegan gelato with Taiwanese and traditional Italian flavors. The best traditional chua bing is Chun Mei.
There’s also my favorite dumpling soup and daily weekday lunch biandang where you choose three dishes and choice of mixed rice or turmeric rice, vegan fantuan stall, and douhua stand in my old neighborhood near Jiantan station.
The open air farmer’s market aunties and uncles had lots of fresh fruit and vegetables from Yangmingshan, a Buddhist faux meat stand that had really great chicken nuggets and fish cakes, grandpa who sold watermelon, and uncle who sold chestnuts.“
Vegan Restaurants
Recommended by Capri Rasmussen
“We had so many terrific vegan options in Taipei, Taiwan (even attended a vegan festival via: 無肉市集 No Meat) and so much to do!
We got breakfast daily at the awesome Ijysheng (Xinyi Branch) bakery (across the street from the hotel) which is all vegetarian with about 70% vegan.

All the spots we ate at we found using HappyCow Vegan Guide & Community app and I added reviews and photos for every spot we ate at under my profile “vegetariangirl”.

eee ice cream and bakes (Taipei vegan ice-cream)
