Klook Taiwan Deals, Day Tours and Tickets / Is Klook Taiwan Legit?

A couple of common questions in our Taiwan Travel Tips (TTT) Facebook group is whether Klook is legit and where is the best place to buy Taiwan tours and attraction tickets.

We’ve been using Klook for many years without a hitch, alongside other reputable travel websites like Get Your GuideViator and KK Day.

Using travel service providers and online travel companies is an easy way to book tours, accommodation, Taiwan SIM Cards and transfers in advance, knowing the price up-front and Klook is one of the best.

From the top 10 best selling Taiwan Klook tours and products to alternative travel websites, here is our guide to Klook Taiwan day-trips, discounts and deals.

Taiwan checklist

We love using agoda.com (use the code TAIWANDERERS for a discount), expedia.com and booking.com for researching and booking all our hotels.

For booking tours, transfers and buying SIM cards/eSIMs we recommend KlookGet Your GuideViator or KK Day. You can also purchase eSIMs from Airalo.

What is Klook and is it legit?

Klook has been around since 2014 and is an online travel platform where you can book Taiwan  travel experiences, plus other places all over the world.

It sells tours and services from other travel companies (so Klook doesn’t actually run the tours – it is more of a reseller).

Based on our experiences, Klook is 100% legit and also offers a full refund if you decide to cancel within the specified cancellation window – you usually receive your full money back a few days later.

We use Klook regularly especially for transportation in Taiwan like bus tickets or High Speed Rail (HSR) ticket – plus we’ve used it for various group day trip tours from Taipei or shuttle buses.

Klook Taiwan discounts and sales

Another great thing is there are often Klook Taiwan deals, sometimes up to 50% off (this is a regular saving for instance, if you book your Jiufen, Yehliu and Shifen day tours).

They often have Klook sales such as Klook Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals.

We also compile the best Klook Taiwan deals every month in our Taiwanderers monthly newsletter which you can sign up for here >

Why book with Klook?

A few reasons why we often book with Klook:

Easy booking and cancellation process
The website is easy to use once you’ve created an account. Your booking confirmation comes through instantly and if you change your mind, just log-in, cancel your booking and your money is automatically returned to your account in a few days.

Pay in your own currency
You can pay in your home currency on Klook – this overcomes any problems you might experience withdrawing money or paying for products with your own card in Taiwan (as sometimes they might get declined – which has happened to us a few times).

Book ahead to avoid disappointment
We always recommend booking hotels and tours well in advance (especially those in Taipei and Alishan) and by booking through Klook, you know that your tour / special trip should be guaranteed (unless they haven’t met minimum numbers on group day tours which is very rare).

Overcomes the language barrier
Klook is available in multiple languages so you need to worry about reading small print in Mandarin – and you can often select tours in your preferred language. The options are likely Japanese, English and Mandarin.

Disadvantages of Klook

At present, the one gripe we occasionally get about Klook is the minimum booking policy – this is when a certain tour needs a minimum number of confirmed passengers to go ahead.

Also please note most Klook products need to be booked at least one to two days in advance – we’ve had several people desperately trying to find Taiwan tours the day before which usually isn’t possible on any travel booking platform.

Popular Klook Taipei tours and activities

Based on the bookings we see and the questions we get in our Facebook group, these are the most popular Klook Taiwan activities to prebook online:

4. Jiufen day trip from Taipei

Possibly the most ‘famous’ day trip from Taipei, exploring the mountain towns of Jiufen and Jinguashi in Taiwan (east of Taipei) feels a little like being in a fantasy movie.

With its historic narrow streets, packed full of beautiful tea-houses and street food stalls, set amidst a backdrop of stunning coastal views, Jiufen almost feels unreal.

Most Klook Jiufen day trips from Taipei also include visits to Heping Island Geopark (near Keelung) and Shifen on the Pingxi Line.

5. Taipei night market food tours

The best time to eat your way, the tastiest time to eat your way around the city is Taipei at night, as night markets open and street food stalls line the roads.

Obviously you can do the likes of Raohe, Ningxia, Shilin and Gongguan Night Markets yourself, but for a more fun way to try local bites with an experienced guide, try a Taipei food tour at night.

Check out these Taipei food tours on Klook >

6. Taipei 101 Observation Deck

The best way to see Taipei from up high, enjoy panoramic views of Taipei from the 89th-floor indoor observatory at Taipei 101. Book Taipei 101 on Klook >

Or upgrade to the Taipei 101 Observatory – Skyline 460 Cloud Walk or enjoy a buffet dinner atop Taipei 101 at A-Joy Buffet.

Taiwanderers Tip – for a free view of Taipei 101 and amazing city views, you can also do an easy hike up Elephant Mountain.

7. Taipei hot spring experiences

Hot Stuff – Taiwan is known as one of the best hot spring destinations in the world, with over 100 different hot spring locations like Beitou and Wulai, both easy day trips from Taipei.

Visitors to Taipei can enjoy a variety of thermal treatments and spas via Klook that use natural hot springs, from public baths like Beitou to hedonistic hot-spring resorts and hotels.

Check out these Taipei hot spring experiences with Klook >

8. Maokong and Taipei Zoo Combos

Famous for its tea plantations, hillside temples and trails, Maokong is a fun place to explore for all ages – and when combined with Taipei Zoo (located next to the start of Maokong Gondola), it is one of the best things to do in Taipei with kids.

Get your Maokong gondola tickets, Taipei Zoo tickets or Maokong tours with Klook >

Alternatively, you can do a Pinglin and Maokong tea culture day tour from Taipei >

Klook tours and transport outside of Taipei

The two most popular shuttles / transfers to book outside of Taipei on Klook are:

9. Alishan

Likely part of most travelers’ dream Taiwan itinerary, Alishan National Forest Recreation Area in Chiayi County is one of Formosa’s fantastic natural wonders.

From its ancient tall trees to cherry blossom trails, sea of clouds and the famous Alishan Forest Railway, this is an amazing way to get back to nature.

There are several ways to get to Alishan with Klook via transfers or shuttles usually from Taichung, Kaohsiung or Chiayi.

Book your Alishan hotels with Klook >

10. Sun Moon Lake

Sun Moon Lake ‘shines’ as one of Taiwan’s top tourist attractions, with a wide array of natural and man-made attractions.

Whilst it can get busy, the sight of sunset over Sun Moon Lake or a trip to the waterside temples usually makes up for the crowds and it is an easy day trip from Taipei or Taichung.

Check out this Sun Moon Lake private transfer available on Klook >

You can also book Sun Moon Lake hotels on Klook >
