Taiwan stamp collecting is a fun and free thing to do in Taiwan, suitable for all ages (including big ‘kids’ like ourselves).
One of the most popular topics of conversation in our Taiwan Travel Tips (TTT) Facebook group, you’ll find free Taiwan stamps to collect at stations, attractions and shopping malls. We always collect stamps every time we are back in Formosa.

You can buy dedicated Taiwan souvenir stamp collection books, plus there are even special Taiwan stamping community Facebook groups set up to share stamp finds and locations
From Bugcat Capoo to a cool capybara stamp trail, Mikan the Cat to an array of Alishan stamps, there are lots of cute Taiwan stamps to collect – plus a completed stamp book makes a great Taiwan souvenir.
From the best places to find them to some of the cutest collections we’ve seen, here is our quick overview of Taiwan souvenir stamp collecting.

Why are Taiwan souvenir stamps so popular?
There are lots of reasons why Taiwan souvenir stamps are so widely collected. Taiwan has really embraced the souvenir stamps and you’ll find them everywhere, from Metro stations to misty mountains.

Free to collect, another reason for their popularity is that some of the ink stamps are so ornate and beautifully designed – they are like miniature works of art.
As well as stamps that just require one imprint, you will also occasionally find stamp trails where each individual stamp contributes to an overall picture like this one at Great Food Town Keelung.

Taiwan souvenir stamp books
Before you start your stamp collection, you might want to buy a special souvenir stamp book like this one on Klook >
There are lots of places where you can buy beautiful stamp books – popular locations in Taipei include one of the gift shops on the top floor of Red House in Ximending, Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall gift-shop plus the Taipei 101 gift-shop.
One of our Facebook group members also said they bought their stamp book in a FamilyMart convenience store.

However, don’t be deterred if you don’t have a book – we’d sometimes spot a souvenir stamp in a station and end up just using our notepad or copy of Taiwan Lonely Planet. We will be more prepared in future!

Where can you find souvenir ink stamps in Taiwan?
It is actually a lot easier than you think as they are located in practically every Taiwan station plus sometimes in the most unlikely of locations!
One way to prepare is to search Facebook groups like our Taiwan Travel Tips (TTT) group – or you can even find niche Facebook groups like this Taiwan Stamp Community Group.
However, we prefer to just look for them in every station plus find them in cute cafes, theme parks and historical sites.
Some of our favourite Taiwan souvenir stamps locations include:
Alishan train stations and visitor center
Alishan is actually one of the best places to collect stamps (or even start your Taiwan stamp collection). Each Alishan Forest Railway station has their own unique stamp PLUS Alishan Visitor Center has several stamps, including a date stamp which they update daily.

Mikan the cat stamps at various Kaohsiung stations
Meet Mikan 蜜柑, Kaohsiung’s cutest station cat. Mikan has a huge social following, her own range of cute kitty merchandise and makes regular appearances at a Kaohsiung Metro KRTC station (KRTC stands for Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation).

So of course there are free Mikan 蜜柑stamps at her home station (Ciaotou Sugar Refinery) plus there are stamps at Formosa Boulevard MRT and Xinzuoying station in Kaohsiung.
We’ve personally met Mikan in the ‘fur’ and we’ve also met some other station cats in Kaohsiung!

Themed train stamps
The Taiwan Formosa Express is a themed train (well, two trains) that does a clockwise and anti-clockwise loop around the island every Friday through Monday.

We’ve ridden it twice – once when it was a Disney themed train in 2024, and now newly rebranded as the Taiwan Sanrio train.
On board, you can collect a free stamp trail map and once you complete all the stamps hidden along the themed carriages, you get a free prize.

Bugcat Capoo stamps
Bugcat Capoo (貓貓蟲咖波) is one of the most popular Taiwan cartoon characters – a cute cross between a blue cat and a bug, created by Taiwan illustrator Yara (亞拉).

There are several Bugcat Capoo themed cafes and shops in Taichung such as the Foam Cat Cafe at Taichung Station / 奶泡貓咖啡臺中驛店 and the Bugcat Capoo House.
Both sell adorable postcards which you stamp with a Bugcat Capoo motif – such a cool Taiwan souvenir.

Capybara stamps
Taiwan is capybara crazy – from the newly crowned Capybara Rock near Keelung to Taipei’s Capybara Knight cafe, there are lots of Taiwan capybara things to do.
However, Paradise of Capybara 墾丁鹿ㄦ島水豚生態園區 in Henchung (near Kenting) goes one further with a capybara stamp trail – admission is NT$200 which gets you access to the park, including feeding capybaras, deer and goats.

As part of the admission, you can follow a capybara stamp trail all over the park – hand in your completed stamped map to get a NT$100 discount of selected items in the capybara merchandise gift-shop.

Metro, Train and HSR stations
It’s no secret that one of the best places to look for Taiwan souvenir stamps is in the train and MRT Stations.
From Keelung to Kaohsiung, Taichung to Taipei, you’ll usually find Taiwan souvenir stamps next to the ticket booths, when you go through the entrance / exit gates (where you tap your EasyCards).

Tourist visitor centers at stations are also another great place to look – for instance, the tourist information center at Kaohsiung Station has a blissful Bravo the Bear stamp, which is the Kaohsiung tourism mascot.
Our group members also recommend Taipei’s Songshan Station for some sublime stamps.

Personalised Stamps / Commemorative Stamps
Finally, if you’d like to take back home your very own Taiwan stamp, there are various ways to create your own personalized stamp block.
Some stations and malls have vending machines where you can create your own stamps – or there are special shops like Ri Xing Type Foundry near Zhongshan MRT station in Taipei.
Here you can create your own customised stamp in English or traditional Chinese letters and you can create your own stamps for less than NT$360 including a case.
Find Ri Xing Type Foundry on Google Maps here >
Commemorative stamp blocks to take home can often be found at major tourist attractions and famous sites such as Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall (where you can see the changing of the guards link too).
