Why Have a Honeymoon in Taiwan?
Still under the radar compared to other Asian destinations, Taiwan is a country of hidden gems and affordable luxury hotels (especially compared to say Japan, Singapore or South Korea) – there are so many types of romantic retreats, from hot spring hotels to accommodation overlooking beaches and in the heart of National Parks.

Often less crowded than other honeymoon destinations (especially away from Taipei and Jiufen), you can enjoy a wellness break, explore the natural beauty of Alishan and Sun Moon Lake or spend some time at Taiwanโs best beaches in Kenting.
Take some time to enjoy traditional Taiwanese culture like a tea-field tour or try the traveler rite of passage that is Taiwan night markets.

Best time to visit Taiwan
Taiwan is a year round honeymoon destination but the summer (June to August) can be hot, humid, rainy and prone to the occasional monsoon.
There are year round Taiwan festivals which you can find out about with our monthly event guides >

Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September through November) is the best time to visit Taiwan in terms of pleasant temperatures.
Please note that Lunar New Year is not the best time of year to visit – this occurs at the start of the year (normally taking place somewhere between late January to early March). Accommodation around Lunar New Year is at a premium (with many local businesses closing down for the holidays).
Peak season in Taiwan is generally classed as the summer months but youโll also find room rates might be slightly higher at other times because of festivals, Christmas and during peak cherry blossom season.

The best places to visit for a Taiwan Honeymoon Itinerary
Most travellers will fly into Taoyuan Taipei International Airport so spend your first few days here – if you haven’t been to Taiwan before, check out our first timers guide.
Depending on how long you will stay for your Taiwan honeymoon, these are some of the places weโd recommend based on natural beauty, coastal settings, fun activities and availability of luxury hotels (which weโll recommend in the next section).

Our suggested 2 week Taiwan honeymoon itinerary:
- Taipei (2 to 4 days) including Beitou – a vibrant start in a big city
- Sun Moon Lake (2 days) – lush lakeside setting
- Alishan (2 days) – national forest and mountainscapes
- Kenting (2 to 3 days) – southern Taiwanโs beach resort and national park
- Taroko Silks Place hotel in Hualien (2 days) – unique hotel located inside Taroko National Park
If you have more than 2 weeks in Taiwan, Tainan is also worth a visit, Taiwanโs oldest city and ancient capital plus famous for its traditional food scene. Tainan might also be a good city to break up the journey between Alishan and Kenting. Read more about Tainan in our guide >
To get around Taiwan you can utilise a combination of high speed rail trains (HSR) and private drivers for the most luxurious experience.

Private drivers are a great option for visiting places that are hard to reach by public transport. Whenever we book a private car to take us from one hotel to another, we book the car for around 8 hours and stop off at various attractions along the way.
When agreeing the road trip itinerary we usually find some places we want to go to, and also take recommendations from the private driver. Read more about booking a private driver in our guide >
Taipei honeymoon suggestions
There are many 5 star luxury hotels in Taipei to choose from, including some with views of the iconic Taipei 101 skyscraper.
Weโve written a guide to our favourite luxury Taipei hotels weโve personally stayed at, but our recommended Taipei honeymoon hotels would be:
Capella Taipei
Opened in late 2025 and one of Taiwanโs newest luxury hotels, welcome to Capella Taipei, Taiwanโs modern mansion.
Perfect for a special occasion, Taiwan honeymoon or luxurious break, we had a VERY relaxing time during our Capella Taipei stay and we could have easily not left the 5 star luxury hotel during our entire time there.

Soak in a swimming pool with Taipei 101 views, take part as a couple in Capella Moments – local experiences like morning rituals and afternoon workshops.
For food and drink, unwind in The Living Room, a chic social area to sip and snack or enjoy the spa. Or start your day in style with an oyster and champagne breakfast in Plume, our best Taipei breakfast experience ever.

At night, enjoy several sumptuous onsite restaurants and The Glasshouse bar and live music complex.

W Taipei
For a romantic luxury hotel stay with Taipei 101 views and beautiful surroundings, be sure to book the W Taipei hotel.
The 5 star W Taipei is in the heart of Taipeiโs Xinyi commercial district with malls and restaurants galore. We stayed in a ‘Fantastic Suite’ which had amazing Taipei 101 views (even from the bath-tub), the comfiest bed and a lovely lounge area plus a cute snug with city views.

The W Taipei has an outdoor pool and WET poolside bar โ a gym and AWAY spa are also available.
YEN Bar & Restaurant on the 31st floor is one of the best bars in Taipei with views of Taipei 101. The food at YEN Chinese restaurant was incredible โ the best duck we ever had. The big buffet breakfast was excellent too.

Sun Moon Lake honeymoon suggestions
Sun Moon Lake โshinesโ as one of Taiwanโs top honeymoon destinations, with a wide array of natural and man-made attractions.
Stay in a lakeside setting like the 5 star Fleur de Chine Hotel which has panoramic lake and mountain views, waterfront terraces and private in-room natural hot spring baths.
Or try the LeaLea Garden Hotel in Ita Thao or the Fuli Hot Spring Resort in nearby Yuchi.

Sun Moon Lake Honeymoon Activities
- Cycle or hike around the lake – be sure to climb the Ci-En Pagoda for stunning views
- Learn about local indigenous culture at Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village via the Sun Moon Lake Ropeway
- Time for tea at HOHOCHA (Taiwan Sun Moon Lake Black Tea Factory ๅๅ่ถ)
- Take a giant swan pedalo out on the lake or so a sunrise SUP session

Alishan Honeymoon Suggestions
Likely part of most of the couple’s Taiwan honeymoon experience, Alishan National Forest Recreation Area in Chiayi County is one of Formosaโs fantastic natural wonders.
From its ancient tall trees to cherry blossom trails, sea of clouds and the famous Alishan Forest Railway, this is an amazing way to get back to nature.

Getting to Alishan and staying in Alishan National Forest Recreation Area isnโt as complicated as you might think BUT the key is to plan and book your honeymoon stay in advance.
Luxury hotels arenโt really a thing inside Alishan National Forest Recreation Area – the closest would be the 4 star Alishan Hotel ้ฟ้ๅฑฑ่ณ้คจ with spacious rooms and views of the forest.
Alternatively, stay at the 5 star Hotel Indigo Alishan in nearby Shizhuo. This is the most luxurious Alishan hotel (outside the national park) with incredible sunrise views looking out directly over the tea-fields. The roof terrace has to be seen to be believed.

Alishan Honeymoon Activities
- Get up early for the Alishan Sunrise / Sea of Clouds
- Take one of Taiwanโs most memorable train rides along the Alishan Forest Railway
- Night time Alishan stargazing and firefly tours (seasonal)
- Wonderful woodland walks and forest trails
- Explore tea fields along the nearby Eryanping Trail or in Shizhuo

Arrive in Alishan in style on the Formosensis train
One of Taiwanโs top romantic rail journeys and a scenic sightseeing train running between Chiayi and Alishan, the Formosensis train ้ฟ้ๅฑฑ็ฆๆฃฎ่่งๅ ๅ่ป is a magical way to arrive in the forest.
A luxury forest train in Taiwan with beautiful carriages, fun activities and memorable experiences, this is the most memorable way to ride along the Alishan Forest Railway.

Operating since 2024 and running several services to and from Alishan, there are four different Formomensis themed experiences meaning you can go all the way from Beimen / North Gate station (Chiayi) to Alishan and back (across two separate trains each way), with new things to see and do.

A luxury Taiwan train ride through the forest and up a steep mountain, Formosensis offers incredible views and fantastic service. We took a ride in March 2026 so here is our guide to Taiwanโs Formosensis train >

Kenting Honeymoon Suggestions
A superb way to end your Taiwan honeymoon vacation, Kenting ๅขพไธ is known for its colourful coastline, sandy beaches, excellent surfing and Kenting National Forest, not to mention its night-life scene and summer festivals.

Southern Taiwanโs tropical paradise in Pingtung, Kenting is accessible by bus, car or moped and around a 2 to 3 hour journey from Kaohsiung.
However, given it’s your honeymoon, we suggest hiring a private driver for the day so you can catch other sublime sites along the way like Maobitou Park, Eluanbi lighthouse and the white sands of Baishawan beach.

GLORIA MANOR
Our number 1 recommendation for Kenting accommodation is GLORIA MANOR, located in the heart of Kenting National Forest and one of the most gorgeous and unique properties weโve ever stayed in.

From sunset pool sessions to balcony views overlooking Mt. Dajian and Big Bay, this fantastic forest retreat is a nice way to spend some time exploring Kenting National Park.
Treat yourself to a DELUXE ROOM (40 mยฒ) – from the bath-tub looking out towards the ocean to the balcony – this is where we spent our evenings watching the sun go down over Kenting or having coffee in the morning with a sea breeze.

Kenting’s Chateau Beach Resort ๅขพไธๅค้ฝๆฒ็้ ๅบ is also a nice beachside hotel which weโve stayed in, albeit a little dated.
The resort has several pools, sun loungers on their private beach plus a beachside bar โ it is about a 10 minute walk to the start of the famous Kenting Night Market.
Kenting Honeymoon Activities
- Spend the day on Baishawan (White Sand Beach), Xiaowan (Small Bay) or Nanwan (South Bay).
- Explore Kenting National Park and head to Taiwanโs most southerly point at Eluanbi Lighthouse
- Enjoy tasty Taiwanese treats at Kenting Night Market
- Surf, swim or enjoy sunset sips – the choice is yours!

BONUS Taiwan Honeymoon activity
Silks Place Taroko hotel in Hualien
If you have a spare couple of nights in Taiwan, may we suggest a stay inside Taroko National Park on Taiwan’s east coast.
You can take the train from Taipei to Hualien station and board the hotel shuttle bus, or book a private driver to take you from Taipei to Hualien station. Road access to the national park is still limited after the 2024 earthquake, so it is recommended to use the hotel transport to get there.

One of the most unique hotels in Taiwan and the only luxury hotel open in Taroko National Park, Silks Place Taroko has to be one of our most memorable stays ever.
A 5 star hotel in an incredible natural setting, escape the city and get back to nature (but with all the comforts).

From the rooftop pool to the fantastic facilities, wonderful food to the outdoor cinema, there is much to enjoy here โ and some of the rooms even have terraces directly overlooking Taroko Gorge.
We think this would be a perfect place to spend part of a Taiwan honeymoon – here is our review of Silks Place Taroko >
