Neimen Song Jiang Battle Ritual 2025

March 2025 (exact dates TBC)

Held in Kaohsiung every March, the Neimen Song Jiang Battle Ritual is a sight (and sound!) to behold). Started in 2001, it brings together local temples, community groups and schools who perform folk celebrations and traditional Taiwanese music and drumming.

In 2024, the Neimen Song Jiang Battle Ritual had a combined prize pot of NT$2,000,000 (around £50,000 or $60,000 USD) which lots of groups ‘battled’ to win.

From dancing lions to a sea of drummers, martial arts to musical displays, this is one of the most memorable Kaohsiung events in March 2025.

Taipei Treasure Hill Light Festival

22 March 2025 to 4 May 2025 (exact dates TBC)

A short walk from Gongguan MRT Station, Treasure Hill Artist Village is an interesting place to visit  (free to walk around too). It is an old settlement with many abandoned houses and areas that have been turned into artists studios (and many residents still live there).

This post may contain affiliate links to tours and hotels. These help us earn a small commission at no additional charge to you.

Held every year over several weeks between late March and early May, several artists and creators install new temporary exhibits during the Treasure Hill Light Festival (the village and its artworks can also be visited all year round).

Exploring the theme of light, expect a wide range of installations and ‘illuminating’ pieces – this March 2025 Taipei event is free to attend.

Taipei Metro National Pets Day (TBC)

Likely late March 2025  / early April 2025 (we’ll update this when we find out)

Fur real – we were lucky enough to be in Tamsui and Taipei in 2024 when this purr-fect pet day took place in Taipei.

Pets are not normally allowed on the Taipei Metro system but for just one day a year. However on a date close to National Pet Day in Taiwan, cats, dogs and other household animals are allowed to ride on specially designated trains on the Xinyi-Tamsui line (last year, the Metro Taipei National Pet Day ride was on Sunday 31 March 2024).

We were returning from Tamsui to Taipei when we got on board the ‘Pet Express’ by chance and were greeted by dozens of dogs and cats riding the Metro.

Taiwan Baseball Season 2025 / Chinese Professional Baseball League season

Likely to start March 30 2025 but still TBC

Taiwan baseball is a ‘big-hitter’ and one of the country’s most popular sports.

The 2025 Taiwan baseball season is likely to run from Saturday 30 March, across two seasons (with the second season starting in July 2025).

Called the ‘Chinese Professional Baseball League’, we expect it will be difficult to get 2025 Taiwan baseball tickets, after the renewed interest in baseball since Taiwan (the national baseball team) had a historic win at the ‘Premier21 Championship’ in December, beating Japan.

2024 was also a big year for Taiwan baseball as the brand new purpose built Taipei Dome opened plus the league expanded to six teams – Taichung’s CTBC Brothers won the 2024 championship.

Taiwan Cherry Blossom 2025 Hotspots

February to April 2025

The best time of the year to see Taiwan cherry blossom ‘spring’ into life is mid February to mid March (although the unpredictable nature of Taiwan’s weather means this is never guaranteed).

From Taipei to Taichung, Yilan to Yangmingshan National Park, Taiwan is a top spot for cherry blossom chasing and sakura spotting.

If you are in downtown Taipei in February, one of the best spots we’ve always found is the park by Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall – expect lots of cherry blossom photographers with tripods, selfie sticks and dogs in prams and pink outfits.

Other Taiwan cherry blossom spots include Beitou, Sun Moon Lake and Alishan.

Taipei Art Aquarium Exhibition

On until 31 May 2025

Hailing from Japan, Tokyo’s famous art aquarium arrives in Taiwan for the very first time – this sounds like a very ‘fishy’ Taipei event to us!

This touring exhibition has been seen by over 12 million visitors across the world and opened in late December 2024.

A Taipei immersive and sensory experience, the Art Aquarium exhibition started life in Ginza Tokyo and brings to life constantly changing art installations in exotic aquariums with real life-goldfish. Each goldfish tank will have a different theme  – this sounds so cool!
