A former wine factory, Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taipei’s Zhongzheng district is home to cute cafes, music theatres plus incredible crafts and unique souvenirs.
The historic site is also rather distinctive, with red brick buildings and warehouses all transformed into thriving business, a reminder of the previous industrial use – the banyan trees and their long roots encased in the walls and old plum brewery buildings also make for very picturesque backdrops.
One of the best things to do in Taiwan and free to visit, here is our ultimate guide to visiting Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taipei, Taiwan.

History of Huashan 1914 Creative Park
Huashan 1914 Creative Park began life as the Taihoku Winery (a sake brewery) which opened (unsurprisingly) in 1914 during Japanese colonial rule.
Ownership of the Taihoku Winery site then reverted back to the Taiwanese Government and it was renamed the Taipei Wine Factory in the 1940s before fully relocating to Linkou in northwest Taipei.
In the late 1990s, the former wine factory was saved from demolition and became Huashan 1914 Creative Park, opening as an arts venue and social space in 2005.
The site has grown in popularity and size ever since and is now one of Taiwan’s most visited free attractions.

Taiwan and its Cultural Parks – Transforming old Taiwanese Factories
Taiwan is famous for its creative parks – the Taiwanese Government and regional authorities over the years have transformed many former warehouse and industrial sites that had been left derelict into thriving cultural spaces and arts hubs.
Another great example is Songshan Creative and Cultural Park in Xinyi, near to Taipei 101 and the new Taipei Dome – this has a permanent art gallery and beautiful lake with boardwalks plus numerous shops, cafes and bars including Cama Coffee Roasters.
We also really like Pier 2 in Kaohsiung, and Taichung Cultural Heritage Park in Taichung. Hualien Cultural and Creative Industries Park however is a bit ho-hum.

As with most heritage and cultural parks in Taiwan, the best time to Visit Huashan 1914 Creative Park is on the weekends or in the early evenings on weekdays.
On weekends, you’ll get to see lots of street performers plus the site is a lot busier with locals and tourists plus lots of families having fun or enjoying picnics in the park at the back – if you want a quieter time, head here on a weekday.
Allow at least two to three hours to explore the creative park, more if you want to go to the pop-up exhibitions or enjoy several bars and cafes.

Things to do in Taipei’s Huashan 1914 Creative Park
There are multiple things to see and do at Taipei’s Huashan 1914 Creative Park – from pop-up shops and exhibitions to warehouse style coffee shops and bars, here is a taster of Taiwan’s best creative park:
Huashan 1914 Creative Park pop-ups
As far as we are aware, Huashan 1914 Creative Park has the highest number of temporary exhibitions and pop up shops in Taipei.
We’ve been about a dozen times over the last 8 years and literally every time we go, there will be some new pop-up or temporary Taipei immersive exhibition.
We’ve seen everything from Samsung to The First Slam Dunk Hello Kitty 50th anniversary pop-ups at Huashan 1914 Creative Park.
Be sure to check out the official Huashan 1914 Creative Park website for the current pop-ups but as a taster, some of the best pop-ups we’ve been to here over the years include:
Peanuts x ArtiStory (2024)
We went to the Snoopy exhibition at Huashan on our most recent Taipei trip in 2024 and it had lots of exclusive merchandise.
Sanrio / Hello Kitty (2019)
Seemingly, every time we visit the creative park, there is a different Hello Kitty or Sanrio pop-up. The first time in 2019, we found ourselves in a Hello Kitty ball pit whilst in 2024, there was a huge Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary exhibition.

Squid Games Netflix Pop-up (2024)
On our most recent visit to Huashan 1914 Creative Park, there was a Squid Games pop-up where you got to take on some of the challenges for free including the giant glass bridge, before emerging into a Squid Games gift-shop.
This was a pop-up / not permanent but a good indicator of what to expect when visiting.
Again, please remember this is a taster of the types of pop-up exhibitions to expect as they change all the time.

Husahan Cafes
Given the historic nature of Huashan 1914 Creative Park, the restaurant and cafe interiors here are usually rather cool and industrial chic.
Although you are spoilt for choice, two of the best cafes in Taipei’s Huashan 1914 Creative Park are:
Vinyl Decision
A coffee bar combined with a second hand vinyl LP / record store, Vinyl Decision is one of Taipei’s most unique coffee shops. You can easily spend a few hours here browsing the second hand LPs, listening to tunes and supping coffee (or something stronger).
With the red brick walls, checkered black and white floor and bar partially made from old stereo speakers, this is one hip hangout to spend a few hours or relax after exploring the creative park
Vinyl Decision Taipei is open daily from noon until 10pm.
CHLIV Taipei Huashan
A cool coffee shop with opulent industrial interiors, this kind of feels like drinking in a sleek showroom. The charcoal interiors and shiny surfaces make it also popular with Instagrammers and selfie takers – damn it, just sit down and drink your coffee!
As you arrive, follow the smell of freshly ground coffee and choose your preferred type of roast – then watch CHLIV Taipei’s top coffee roaster work their mellow magic.
There is ample seating inside so take time to unwind and appreciate your latte art. CHLIV Taipei Huashan is open daily from 11am to 7pm.

Chun Shui Tang
Originally from Taichung, this is a blissful bubble tea shop in the heart of the site – be prepared to queue on the weekends though!
Craft Beer Bars and Cocktail Bars
Zhangmen Brewing
Located amongst the trees by the main entrance to Huashan 1914 Creative Park, Zhangmen Craft Brewery is a cracking craft brewery in Taiwan with over 10 brewery taprooms, including four in Taipei.
The Taipei Zhangmen Brewing taproom and brewery at Huashan 1914 has an incredible tap-range (around 16 craft beers to try on our last visit), a leafy terrace plus great views of all the weekend markets and street performers.
We tried their 6.4% cherry sour 6.6% American IPA. We definitely recommend Zhangmen Brewing as one of the best craft beer breweries in Taipei and Taiwan.

Huashan 1914 Creative Park Shops – Wooderful Life
A quick mention of one of the most beautiful shops at Huashan 1914 – Taipei’s flagship Wooderful Life store.
Wooderful Life is a chain of wooden toy shops that produce the most incredible and intricate gifts such as music boxes, wooden puppets and traditional toys.
As well as a free to visit shop, there is also a playhouse and Wooderful Life activity park where kids can jump around and tinker with trinkets of all types.
Such sublime souvenirs (plus there are often collaborations with famous cartoon brands like Sanrio or Disney), Wooderful Life is a wonderful shop to browse for gorgeous hand-crafted gifts

Foodie Dinosaur
Science Factory
One Day Shop and cafe
Huashan Creative Park Live music and street performers
Mainly at the weekends, dozens of live musicians and street performers converge on Huashan 1914 and perform shows in return for tips and donations.
The best place to see street performers is at the ‘Wild Terrace”, just across from Zhangmen Brewing and next to the tourist information centre – just follow the sound of live music or the collective ‘coos and oohs’ of the crowds.
We once saw a chair balancing act here that was spectacular. Many of the street performances are a bit hit and miss to be honest – you never know what you are going to see.
Recently, we also noticed that there was a music theatre at Huashan Park that often hosts girls groups and local bands. The Taiwan version of the AKB48 Team TP girl group seemed to perform there regularly with lots of sweaty men queuing up outside – interesting!

Huashan 1914 Creative Park restaurants
There are around 20 restaurants and cafes onsite including:
Alleycats Pizza
Chubby Doo Donut Store
Daylight Pasta Cafe
Green Spaces and Picnics
Although much of Huashan 1914 Creative Park is taken up with old warehouses and red brick walls, many families converge here at the weekends to enjoy the green lawns, parks and fountains at the back of the site.
There are a few street food carts and sellers plus some rather colourful ceramic installations – lots of younger groups meet up here to listen to music and drink into the early evening, it is a really social space.
