Getting around Taipei at night
Taipei has a great public transport network, with the Taipei Metro running from 6am to midnight every day plus some downtown Taipei buses running 24 hours. Uber taxis are also easy to order via the app.
Also check Google Maps or the official Go! Taipei Metro app to see which is the quickest and best route for you.
Taiwanderers Tip
Grab a Taiwan EasyCard as a convenient way to use buses and public transport in Taipei and across Taiwan. They can be easily topped up at stations and convenience stores.

Taipei at night things to do
1. Ximending Entertainment District
Taipei’s best known night-time neighbourhood and popular with tourists, Ximending is a must-visit when in Taipei at night.

From street performers to a small night market, late night shopping to tattoo street, Ximending is always fun to visit with plenty of bars hidden amongst the side alleys.
Watch the dancers, singers and performers in the heart of Ximending every night (free to watch but donations are appreciated) or just grab a seat in one of the upstairs restaurants and people-watch.
Some call it a tourist trap but it is never boring plus a great place for late night bites and neon nights.

2. Raohe Night Market
One of Taipei’s best night markets and in the shadow of Songshan Ciyou Temple (which also lights up in the evenings), Raohe Night Market is full of fine foodie finds and tasty Taiwanese tidbits.

Famous for its famous Fuzhou pork pepper buns (and justifiably so – they are amazing), Raohe Night Market gets very busy, very fast so head there before 6pm if you want to avoid big crowds.
There is so much to eat and drink at Raohe Night Market and highlights include the mushroom stall where the guy plays Celine Dion songs very loudly as he chops up the mushrooms.

Also make time for ‘Time’ for Taipei craft beers at Raohe Night Market – Time Beer is a cute and charming Taipei craft beer that sits directly in front of the stalls, with a huge range of Taiwanese and local beers on tap.
Raohe Night Market in Taipei is open every evening from 5pm until around 11pm. Check out this Raohe Night Market tour with Din Tai Fung dinner.

3. Red House LBGTQ+ bars / Taipei’s gay scene
In the evenings, as the famous Red House shuts its shops, the action switches to behind the Red House to some of Ximending’s best bars and nightlife, plus Taipei’s LBGTQ+ hot-spot.

Around the back of the Red House, you’ll find around a dozen pubs, clubs and bars plus another couple more hidden away on the upper level.
The Red House bars and clubs in Ximending are renowned as Taipei’s main gay area and LBGTQ+ friendly neighborhood.

All of the bars around Red House have very late opening hours, (very) Happy Hour drinks prices plus themed outdoor terraces and tropical gardens with neon signs.
Some of the most popular LGBTQ+ Red House bars in this part of Ximending include The Secret Garden, Paradise and Café Dalida (all open until 2am). Whilst sleepy in the daytime, this part of Red House comes alive at night.

4. Dihua Street in Tapei at night
The historic district of Dihua Street and Dadaocheng in Taipei is perhaps most famous for its amazing architecture, traditional Chinese medicine shops and Lunar New Year celebrations – however, in recent years, the area has welcomed an influx of coffee shops and craft beer bars.

Where new and traditional Taipei combine, the main Dihua Street and its opulent mansion houses were once Taipei’s most prosperous area, built up in the 1850s.
In the evenings, there are lots of gift shops, bars and restaurants open like Dixielane (famous for its live music), Mikkeller Taipei craft beer bar and Du Hsiao Yueh danzai noodle shop.
Many of the traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine Shops on Dihua Street stay open until late too, as does the Xia Hai City God Temple.

5. Yongkang Street
Taipei’s tastiest neighborhood, Yongkang Street is one of the yummiest things to do in Taiwan day or night, packed full of delicious dumpling houses, craft beer bars and food stalls that are open until late.

From the terrific Tian Jin Scallion Flaky Pancakes to xiao long bao and beef noodles, there is something to suit all tastes (and budgets) along Yongkang Street. The late great Anthony Bourdain also visited and ate at James Kitchen and Yongkang Beef Noodles.
Taipei is never short of craft beer bars, and one of the best breweries in Taiwan is Zhangmen Brewing, who have a small bar just off Yongkang Street open until midnight on weekdays and 1am at weekends

6. Sunset Views at Taipei 101
Perhaps Taiwan’s most iconic building and once the world’s tallest, Taipei 101 is 508 metres high and has…you guessed it… 101 floors and open until 10pm in the evening
Looking out across Taipei, the observation deck runs between floors 88 and 91, whilst there are two floors of high-up restaurants on floors 85 and 86.

Taiwan’s fastest elevator soars up incredibly quick at a speed of up to 1,010m per minute (and yep, your ears might pop).
To assist with earthquake resistance, Taipei 101 also has the world’s biggest mass damper which is on display, like a huge ball. And in true Taiwan style, they’ve even created a cartoon character out of it, Damper Baby (which has merchandise across the several gift shops).
Enjoy sunset drinks and an epic epicurean evening experience in the Taipei 101 restaurants. Admission to Taipei 101 is quite steep (like the tower really), but very much worth it.
Alternatively, our next thing to do in Taipei at night is a way to enjoy a drink at the top of Taipei 101 for a fraction of the standard admission price…

7. Simple Kaffa Sola cafe in Taipei 101 – the (highest cafe in Taipei)
A ‘simple’ (Kaffa) way to get Taipei 101 views without paying the full admission price, Simple Kaffa Sola is the new Taipei 101 cafe and coffee shop located on the 88th floor of the Taipei 101 tower.
Opened in January 2023, Simple Kaffa Sola is also the highest / tallest cafe in Taipei, Taiwan (even more so now that the former Starbucks within Taipei 101 tower has now closed) and open until 8pm every evening.

Whilst admission to the Taipei 101 starts from NT$600 (located one floor above the cafe on level 89), you can save money (and enjoy a drink) by buying a NT$240 Simple Kaffa coffee, which gains you admission to their 88th floor cafe.

8. Explore Zhongshan at Night
Taipei’s trendiest district and hipster hangout, Zhongshan is the Taipei neighborhood for cool cafes, boutique shops and second-hand stores, many of which stay open until late.
Every side-street in Zhongshan is packed with dive bars or a treasure trove of thrift stores plus close to Shuangcheng Street Night Market.

There are so many things to do in Zhongshan including Taipei’s top subterranean shopping center, Zhongshan Underground Book Street with lots of epic Eslite stores.
As well as modern bars and Japanese style izakaya restaurants, there are still lots of traditional buildings that have been repurposed like the Film House, set-up in the former US Ambassador’s home.
From museums to malls, check out our full guide to Taipei’s Zhongshan district here >

9. Modern Toilet Restaurant
One of the ‘cr@ppiest’ things to do in Taipei at night – but in a good way. Yes, there are two toilet themed restaurants in Taipei, with a Modern Toilet branch near Shilin Night Market plus Modern Toilet Ximending which reopened in 2024 after a lengthy closure.

A meal at Modern Toilet is like no other, with food and drinks served in toilets – this is one time when it is fine to lick your ‘bowl’ clean in public. The turd shaped ice-cream (chocolate of course) is particularly memorable and even your seat is a toilet.
Something to do in Taipei with kids (or if you just like sh*tty restaurants), Modern Toilet is open until around 9.30pm in both Ximending and Shilin.

10. Don Don Donki Ximending
Japan’s most joyful discount store is now open 24/7 in Taipei!
Originally known as Don Quijote in Japan where it has dozens of stores all over the country, Don Don Donki (as it is branded in Taiwan) opened their first Taiwan store in Ximending in 2021.

Located over several stories including a big fresh food area (with lots of Japanese food like takoyaki and sashimi / sushi), DON DON DONKI Ximen Store is a great place for late night shopping in Taipei.
On the top floors, there are also several restaurants including a Korean fried chicken place.
There is also another branch near Huashan Creative Park 1914 – DON DON DONKI Zhongxiao Xinsheng Store – but it is not open 24 hours (opening hours are 9am to 11pm).

11. Shilin Night Market, Taipei
2025 update – please note the downstairs food court at Shilin Night Market has been closed for several months for ‘renovations’. We last visited Shilin Night Market in early 2025 and the downstairs food stalls were STILL closed.
Taiwan’s largest night market, Shilin is a street food lover’s paradise, with a combination of food kiosks, sit down restaurants and several huge underground food courts.

Easily reached via the MRT (alight at Jiantan Station), one of the best places to eat in Taipei at night is the Shilin Night Market Food Court. A little overwhelming at first as stall holders flash their menus in your face, but just follow your nose or see where the locals go.
As well as street-food and late night bars (plus the weird and wonderful Modern Toilet restaurant), look out for Shilin’s 3D immersive billboard (with a cute cartoon tiger), plus lots of fairground games and amusements on the sidelines – kids will love it!

12. 24 Hour Themed 7-Eleven stores and 7-Eleven Bars
Taiwan has over 7,000 7-Eleven stores most of which can be visited 24/7. However, did you know there are over 100 themed 7-Eleven stores in Taiwan, including two Hello Kitty 7-Eleven stores in Taipei and several Snoopy 7-Elevens?

Did you also know some 7-Elevens in Taiwan have their own bars where you can enjoy draft beers, cocktails and wine with food bought in store?
We’ve been asked about Taipei 7-Eleven bars quite a few times in our Taiwan Travel Tips (TTT) – Facebook group and it turns out one of the biggest in Taiwan is less than 10 minutes walk away from Gongguan Night Market (7-ELEVEN 博源門市) located – in the Gongguan / University District (NTU).
Local students congregate here for cheap beers and this boozy 7-Eleven has a huge indoor seating area and outdoor terrace that is packed at weekends with supping students. This thirsty Taipei 7-Eleven can be found here on Google maps >

13. Elephant Mountain / Xiangshan Hiking Trail
For the best cityscapes of Taipei at night, make the short (but steep!) hike up to Elephant Mountain (Xiangshan), for epic sunset views featuring Taipei 101.

It can get busy at the top as visitors jostle for position because the views are so worth it, and the main Elephant Mountain trail starts a short 10 minute walk from Xiangshan MRT Station.
The best lower sunset spots are Fireworks Lookout (via Yongchun Pavilion) and Xiangshan’s famous photography lookout. Both of these take around about 15 minutes to hike up steep steps – Fireworks Lookout is usually less busy with better views but it is smaller.

The higher viewing platforms also offer great views and you pass by the 6 Boulders, another famous photography point – however, if you don’t want more steps, the views at the lower platforms are still equally stunning.
We also appreciated the enterprising locals who set up cold drink stalls on the sides of the hike, including ice-cold Taiwan beers – cheers!

14. Taipei Hooters Xinyi Bar
The Taipei Hooters Xinyi Bar in Taiwan might be the best Hooters bar in the world and is open until 1am on weekdays and 2am on weekends.
With an incredible rooftop bar terrace offering incredible views of Taipei 101 (plus a very ‘Happy Hour’), Hooters is one of the best bars in Xinyi for a fun night and cheap drinks.

Serving up American style diner food accompanied with American, European and Taiwanese beers, Hooters (near Taipei 101) is blessed with skyline views and located on the 14th floor of the Far Eastern Department Store Xinyi A13 Store.
Whilst some of the Hooter waitress outfits can be a tad revealing / skimpy, Hooters is a popular bar and great place to watch live sports in Taipei, including Taiwan baseball games (and live on the huge HDTV screens).
From tipples to the rooftop terrace, the food menu to Hooters merchandise, here is our guide to visiting the Xinyi Hooters >

15. Taiwan temples at night
One of the best free things to do in Taipei at night, the city is blessed with beautiful temples and shrines which stay open until late evening.

Three of the best Taipei temples to visit at night are Songshan Ciyou temple near Raohe Night Market (open until 10.30pm), Taipei Xia Hai City God temple along Dihua Street open until early evening and Longshan temple, open until 10pm.
For us, Lungshan temple is one of the most incredible shrines we’ve seen in Taiwan, especially when the worshippers gather to chant and pray. Songshan Ciyou Temple also has an upper level to explore with views looking down over the main hall below.

16. Taipei Baseball
Taipei baseball is a ‘big-hitter’ and one of the country’s most popular sports.
A fun night out in Taipei, make a home-run to a Taiwan baseball game – the 2025 Taiwan baseball season usually starts in late March until October, across two seasons.
Taiwan baseball is suitable for all ages and it is easy to buy baseball tickets online or in person at the baseball stadiums or using the Taiwan convenience store ticket machines in 7-Eleven and FamilyMart – many games are played at the new Taipei Dome in Xinyi.

The Taiwan baseball / CPBL games can usually be seen 6 days a week during baseball season – it is only Monday when there are no baseball games played (and the odd other day).
Enjoy the evening action on and off the field as the stands often erupt into cheers with entertainment and dancing also quite common.
Check out our guide to getting Taipei baseball tickets here >
17. Ningxia Night Market
A short 10 minute walk from Dihua Street, Ningxia night market is one of Taipei’s best night markets with hundreds of food stalls lined along one road.
Even though it is smaller than say Shilin Night Market or Raohe Night Market, it can get so busy especially on weekends and Friday night when it can take a LONG time to walk down the central aisle, as dozens of hungry customers wait for their food.

Many of the larger stalls have outdoor seating areas plus there are permanent restaurants dotted along either side of Ningxia Night Market. From beef noodles to Taiwanese pancakes, you will not go hungry here!
As well as food, you’ll find lots of gaming / fun-fair style stalls for kids plus it seems to have the largest concentration of marble pinball machines and ring toss stalls of anywhere we’ve seen.
Ningxia Night Market in Taipei is open seven days a week from 5pm to around 1am.

18. Craft Beer Bars
‘Ganbei’ to the Taipei craft beer scene and Taiwan brewery bars.
From beautiful beer taprooms like Taihu Brewing to shopping mall brewery bars like Hit Cat Brewing, you’ll find plenty of great beer to drink at night.

Taipei has loads to offer craft beer connoisseurs and drinkers in Taiwan, from booze and gyoza at Rongjin Gorgeous Time to Taiwan night market craft beer bars.
On a recent trip to Taipei, we also discovered Floating Taipei bar near Dihua Street, which shows Mr Bean cartoons as you sip beer. Nice!

19. Taipei Karaoke
Party time in Taipei at night. Time for a little song after traipsing around the streets of Taipei all day. There are karaoke booths all over Taipei but PARTYWORLD KTV is the go-to place in Ximen for karaoke and open until 6am.
With dozens of private booths and colossal catalogs of songs, croon to your heart’s content accompanied with beers, spirits and snacks.
Private karaoke booths are charged on an hourly rate (prices vary depending on the time of day) and they sometimes do special tourist discounts at PARTYWORLD if you show your overseas ID or passport.

20. Go the Cinema in Taipei at night
There are cinemas all over Taipei which are open until late – the Ximending Movie Cinema Street on Wuchang Street is a great example or try Taipei’s biggest cinema, the IMAX at Miramar shopping center in the Zhongshan District.

There are around 15 cinemas in and around Ximending with the biggest concentration found along Wuchang Street. Most of the movies are shown in their original language, with mandarin subtitles.
Some cinemas in Ximending (like LUX CINEMA) show movies into the small hours with blockbuster movies often shown throughout the night.

21. Claw machines and gachapon machines
Taiwan (and Taipei in particular) love their gaming arcades which stay open until late. From gachapon shops to the UFO / claw machine arcade machines, you are never far from gaming action.
For the highest concentration of gachapon capsule toy machines in Taipei, try the Wannian building in Ximending or Shilin Night Market.

Although many claim the UFO machines are rigged – there are such arcades all over Taipei but Ximending seems to have the highest concentration.
In most cases, these arcades in Ximending are open 24 hours a day, and many are unstaffed hence why they can always stay open.

22. Taipei Dinner Buffets
There are lots of great dinner buffets in Taipei but two of the best are A Joy buffet in Taipei 101 plus the Taipei Grand Hyatt evening buffet next door.
We dined at the Grand Hyatt buffet in early 2025 and it had had a fantastic selection of food. We loved the deep fried scallops, sashimi, mussels and prawns, plus some of the tasty meats such as roast beef and lamb chops. The truffle risotto was also delightful.

There was so much food to choose from. One thing we did note was that if you are vegetarian, then the hot food selection isn’t that great.
One of the most recommended Taipei buffets in our Taiwan Travel Tips Facebook group is A Joy Buffet on the 86th floor of Taipei 101. Whilst not cheap, the views are amazing and the seafood here is something else. So if you love lobster or evening dinner with a view, be sure to book A Joy buffet.
23. Wannian Building
A myriad of market stalls and cool quirky shops, Ximending’s Wannian Building is chock full of cool toy stores, retro clothing, trading cards and gachapons galore – it reminds us of Japanese neighbourhoods like Akihabara and Harajuku.

Spread over several floors with an inexpensive food court in the basement, the Wannian Building market is a good place to geek out.
There are amusement arcades, a huge collection of claw machines plus an entertainment center (Tom’s World’s on level 5), all of which are open until 10pm every evening.

23. Dadaocheng Wharf at night
Overlooking the Tamsui River with lots of container / pop-up bars and food kiosks, Dadaocheng Wharf is an easy walk from Dihua Street and enjoys lots of riverside paths and walkways.
It is a special place to enjoy Taiwanese street-food and international fare at sunset with some drinks.

Note Dadaocheng Wharf is great for a riverside walk any time of day but other than a couple of container cafes, this only really gets going in the evening (alas we visited at lunchtime so it was pretty dead and quiet) – so definitely one thing to do in Taipei at night.
Dadaocheng Wharf is open until 10pm every evening.

24. Gongguan Night Market
One of Taipei’s best night markets and possibly the most authentic, what Gongguan Night Market lacks in size is more than made up for by the amount of amazing food.
Located in a popular student area famous for its NTNU-Gongguan Campus, Gongguan Night Market is Taipei’s largest night market in the South District, within a minute’s walk of the nearest MRT stop and takes place over two parallel side streets.

These lanes of Taiwanese street-food and international fare are an incredible foodie foray – when we visited Gongguan, we saw no other Westerners and it is very different from say Raohe Night Market or Ningxia Night Market.
Several stalls had long queues and we tried food at them all, including Gongguan Night Market’s Michelin Bib Gourmand flaky scallion pancake stall.
Read more in our guide to Gongguan Night Market >

25. Taipei Food Tours at night
The best time to eat your way, the tastiest time to eat your way around the city is Taipei at night, as night markets open and street food stalls line the roads.
Obviously you can do the likes of Raohe, Ningxia, Shilin and Gongguan Night Markets yourself, but for a more fun way to try local bites with an experienced guide, try a Taipei food tour at night.

We recently visited Huaxi Night Market with Tour Me Away on a good group tour that saw us try several local dishes including the Bib Michelin Gourmand restaurant, Wang’s Broth (it has also been on the Somebody Feed Phil Netflix Taipei episode).
You can book this tour on Get Your Guide and on Klook.

27. Pop Mart late night shopping
Pop Mart Ximen’s four storey flagship store is now open and one of Taipei’s top toy-stores, open until 10pm every night.
One of Ximending’s newest attractions for 2024 and a cool collectible toy shop in Taipei, Pop Mart Ximen spans four floors and even has an exhibition space, VIP lounge and recording studio (not to mention thousands of blind boxes and collectibles).

When Pop Mart Ximen first opened in late December 2023, people queued around the block to get in and check out all the exclusive merchandise and opening offers plus see the magnificent MEGA SPACE MOLLY showcase.

If you haven’t heard of Din Tai Fung before, where have you been? One of the most popular chain restaurants on the Taiwan dining scene, there are branches all over Taipei and Taiwan plus has outposts as far afield as Australia and the UK – so why not try it at the source?!

It all started back in 1958 with their Din Tai Fung branch at the end of Yongkang Street, and they now have branches all over Taipei, most of which stay open until around 8.30pm.
Best known for its xiao long bao soup dumplings, Din Tai Fung is affordable and generally very good – their restaurants are always very popular so you’ll likely need to get a ticket to join the line or register on the waiting app.

29. Ichiran Ramen
We’ve already mentioned several Taipei night markets, but if you fancy something a little different late at night, our favorite chain ramen restaurant from Japan – Ichiran Ramen, has branches in Xinyi and is all about the dining experience and dish customisation.

Even better, it is open until 5am so perfect after a big night of socialising and drinking.
As this is some of the top Tonkatsu Ramen in Taipei, expect BIG queues to get in, no matter what time of day.

Order your noodles based on preferred ramen requirements – you are then ushered into your very own dining booth (move the divider if there is more than one of you).
Complete a tick box paper sheet saying how spicy / how much garlic / which noodles etc you want. Then wait for tonkatsu ramen to magically appear in front of you from the serving hatch. Recommended ramen!

Exploring the mountain town of Jiufen in Taiwan (east of Taipei) feels a little like being in a fantasy movie – many of the Jiufen tours start in the daytime at Yehliu Geopark then visit the Pingxi Line and Shifen before finishing in Jiufen at night.

With its historic narrow streets, packed full of beautiful tea-houses and street food stalls, set amidst a backdrop of stunning coastal views, Juifen almost feels unreal.
In fact, legend has it that Jiufen was the inspiration behind the setting for the classic animated Studio Ghibli movie, Spirited Away (although many dispute this so who knows?!).

From traditional temples to ancient alley-ways lit up by red lanterns at night (Jiufen Old Street), there are lots of things to do in Jiufen.

OK, so admittedly, Keelung Night Market isn’t in downtown Taipei but it is an easy direct train (or bus) ride with regular departures.

Keelung Night Market is one of Taiwan’s top night markets, with hundreds of superb street food stalls and open 7 nights a week.
As visited by such famous food shows such as Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix and the late, great Anthony Bourdain’s The Layover, Keelung Night Market is a fine foodie foray so make sure you arrive on an empty stomach!
