Ximending is one of the best Taipei neighborhoods to stay for first time Taiwan travellers and return visitors.
The area has great transport links, tons of tasty Taiwan food spots, a great night-life plus lots of Ximending hotels big and small to suit all budgets.

Why choose Ximending hotels to stay in?
We’d recommend checking out our Taipei neighborhoods guide which lists 10 different districts we’d suggest visiting or staying in whilst in Taipei.
However, in terms of the best places to stay in Taipei, Ximending takes some beating – it is very close / walkable to Taipei Main Station (which makes it easier to do Taipei day trips), and you can also walk to other nice neighborhoods like Dihua Street, one of Taipei’s oldest settlements.
Ximending is famous for its night-life centered around the Ximending Entertainment district.
There are some incredible places to eat like a bounty of beef noodle soup stalls (our favourite is Liu Shandong Beef Noodles), or Ximending breakfast restaurants like Yong He Soy Milk.
Ximending also had lots of fun things to do with kids from the poop-themed restaurant that is Modern Toilet to the arcade and gachapon machines in the Wannian Building.
For revellers and craft beer connoisseurs, you’ll discover Ximending is home to some of Taipei’s best craft beer bars or clubs and karaoke booths.
Best of all, there are lots of hotels dotted around Ximending, meaning you can usually find something to suit all budgets.

Booking Taiwan Ximending hotels – top tips
Once you are ready to start booking your Ximending hotel(s), there are a few general rules and tips:
- Peak season in Taiwan is generally classed as the summer months but you’ll also find room rates are likely higher in the winter because of Christmas in Taipei, Taiwan Lunar New Year and cherry blossom.
- We find Agoda has the best room rates for Taiwan / Ximending hotels plus Booking.com is also quite good.
- Online rates for Taiwan hotels are generally better than booking in person. We even had a situation where we tried to extend a Taipei hotel booking at reception and the staff kindly informed us we should book it on Agoda instead as it would be cheaper!
- If possible, book your Ximending hotel rooms several months in advance as the room rates tend to increase in the months before you arrive – also consider making use of the ‘cancellable’ room options that some hotel booking sites have like Agoda.

Ximending hotels and accommodation
Here are some highly rated Ximending hotel and accommodation suggestions for all types of budget:
High End and Luxury Ximending Hotels ($$$)
Note most of the luxury / 5* Taipei hotels are based in areas like Xinyi and Zhongshan – Ximending generally has 4* hotels and below.
WESTGATE Hotel
A boutique Ximending hotel with contemporary rooms and just a 1-minute walk from Ximen MRT Station.
Additional facilities include a gym and coin laundry, plus the WESTGATE buffet breakfast is highly recommended.

Mid-range priced Ximending hotels ($$)
citizenM North Gate Hotel
We are going to go into a little more detail on CitizenM Northgate as it is currently our favourite modern hotel in Ximending.
Most recently, we paid £75 a night for a King room city view without breakfast (NT$3,100 or $97 USD). We were allocated a 7th floor room which had decent views, but there were 26 floors in total so some of the other higher floor rooms would have even better views of the city.
The location was fantastic and a short walk to Taipei Main station, the airport MRT, Beimen MRT station and also the Ximending entertainment district.
The room is indeed compact in size (fairly standard for Taiwan), but not too small, and the WiFi was a very good speed compared to other Taipei hotels we’ve stayed in.
Each room has an iPad which you use to control the settings in the room, including different coloured lights for the shower!
There was an option to pay a small amount extra for a late checkout (2pm instead of 11am). This cost £12 (NT$500 or $15 USD) which we happily paid for as our flight out of Taipei was at 6pm.
The hotel had some awesome decor, and quirky graphic design touches.

Swiio Hotel Ximending
We stayed in Swiio for several nights a few years ago and loved the location (right in the heart of the action).
The reception area and rooms are all very modern and it has neat little touches like a movie screening room plus theming in the hotel room corridors – we stayed on a London themed floor which was kind of fun / odd.

Midtown Richardson Ximending
This is generally the most recommended hotel by members of our Taiwan Travel Tips group when any questions about Ximending hotels get asked. It is a 3* hotel but it is all about its proximity to the main attractions in the area.
The location is unbeatable and it is a stone’s throw from the Ximen MRT station plus the iconic Red House.
Onsite facilities include a gym plus many enjoy the buffet breakfast at Midtown Richardson. This is a chain with hotels across Taiwan.

AMBA Hotel Ximending
A 4* Ximen hotel located above the Eslite Spectrum Wuchang department store.
AMBA Hotel Ximending is around a 7 minute walk from Ximen MRT station and has an onsite self-service laundry and a restaurant and cafe.
Check out AMBA Hotel Ximending prices and availability on agoda.com | hotels.com | expedia.com
Roaders Hotel Zhonghua
There are several Roaders hotels in Taipei including this one close to Ximending.
This is a quirky Ximen hotel which some of our Facebook group members recommend for its attention to detail like free sweets and snacks plus a photo booth for selfies in the reception area.
It has a loft style feel and is a good Ximending hotel for families with family rooms available that include nice touches like teepees and child friendly furnishings.

Cho Hotel
A 2 minute walk from Ximen Station, this is another Ximending hotel that has been mentioned in our Taiwan Facebook group – people love the location and amenities but some of the rooms are quite small.
Some of the Cho Hotel rooms have small balconies and terraces (very rare in Ximen) plus there is a small outdoor area and kid’s playroom.

Hotel Papa Whale
A tale of two hotels, Hotel Papa Whale kind of falls in between mid-range and budget hotels in Ximending.
The reception area is very ‘bling’ and modern plus the onsite bar (Driftwood Ximending) is one of our favourite craft beer bars in Taipei.
The location is fantastic but their rooms vary greatly in price and style – they have cheaper ‘no window’ rooms in the basement plus better equipped rooms on the upper levels.
Hotel Papa Whale also has large family rooms available.

Greenworld Zhonghua Ximen
We’ve stayed at this Ximen hotel on a couple of occasions over the years, most recently at the end of 2024.
We like it as it is across the road from the main Ximending entertainment area plus the rooms are quite big for Ximending (obviously depending on your room type).
The various floors are brightly coloured and there is an onsite laundry – the one downside is the hotel is in the same building as another hotel (Just Sleep) so the two lifts can get very full / busy quite quickly at peak times like check out.
But if you just want somewhere close to the action and a clean place to sleep, Greenworld Zhonghua should suit you fine. The direct shuttle bus stop to Jiufen and the Hello Kitty 7-Eleven store are also very close by.
Check out Greenworld Zhonghua prices and availability on booking.com | agoda.com | expedia.com
Budget Ximending Hotels and Hostels ($$$)
Rainbow Hotel
Travellers to Taipei like Rainbow Hotel as it is friendly on the wallet and literally right next to Ximen’s main walking street – however, some say the rooms are a little dated and can be noisy, as you are so close to the action.
Check out Rainbow Hotel prices and availability on booking.com | agoda.com | hotels.com | expedia.com
Tomorrow Hotel
One of the better Ximen budget accommodation options that isn’t a hostel, several people in our Taiwan Travel Tips Facebook have recommended Tomorrow Hotel.
To save money, you can book a room without a window and all rooms have a flat-screen TV and air conditioning.
Check out Tomorrow Hotel prices and availability on booking.com | agoda.com | hotels.com | expedia.com
Meander Taipei Hostel
Highly rated hostel that offers a number of tours and fun events.
It is on the more expensive side of hostels but people rave about its cleanliness in reviews plus it has a small rooftop terrace.
