Taipei Main Station hotels and nearby Ximending are a good place to stay for first time Taiwan travellers, return visitors and those with just a few days in Taipei.
The area obviously has great transport links, tons of tasty Taiwan food spots, is walkable to Ximending plus there are lots of Taipei Main Station hotels big and small to suit all budgets.

The big advantage of staying in accommodation near Taipei Main Station is that you have access to so many day trips from Taipei here via train or subway, plus it is where the Taoyuan Airport MRT train starts and terminates (making it great for late or early flights).

Why choose hotels near Taipei Main Station to stay in?
We’d recommend checking out our Taipei neighborhoods guide which lists 10+ different districts we’d suggest visiting or staying in whilst in Taipei.
However, in terms of the best places to stay in Taipei, Taipei Main Station is a good place to stay for transport links. It is very close / walkable to nearby Ximending and Zhongzheng, and you can also walk to other nice neighborhoods like Dihua Street, one of Taipei’s oldest settlements.
There are some incredible places to eat nearby like a bounty of beef noodle soup stalls (our favourite is Liu Shandong Beef Noodles), plus there are lots of Taiwanese breakfast places and cheap Taiwan chain restaurants nearby Taipei Main Station.
Within walking distance, you have green spaces like 228 Peace Memorial, lots of shops and historic sites like North Gate, Beimen Post Office (a great place to collect Taiwan souvenir stamps) and see the excavations at Beimen Station.
We’d also recommend walking to see the Changing of the Guard Ceremony outside Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and the surrounding Democracy boulevard area.
Don’t forget Taiwan’s High Speed Rail network goes from Taipei Main Station so if you want to see a lot of Taiwan but base yourself in Taipei throughout, you can be in Taichung in one hour and Kaohsiung in 1 hour 35 minutes.

Booking Taipei Main Station hotels – top tips
Once you are ready to start booking your Taipei Main Station hotel(s), there are a few general rules and tips:
- Peak season in Taiwan is generally classed as the summer months but you’ll also find room rates are likely higher in the winter because of Christmas in Taipei, Taiwan Lunar New Year and cherry blossom season.
- We find agoda.com has the best room rates for Taiwan / Taipei Main Station hotels plus Booking.com is also quite good.
- Online rates for Taiwan hotels are generally better than booking in person. We even had a situation where we tried to extend a Taipei hotel booking at reception and the staff kindly informed us we should book it on Agoda instead as it would be cheaper!
- If possible, book your Taipei Main Station hotel rooms several months in advance as the room rates tend to increase in the months before you arrive – also consider making use of the ‘cancellable’ room options that some hotel booking sites have like Agoda.

Hotels near Taipei Main Station
Here are some highly rated Taipei Main hotel and accommodation suggestions for all types of budget:
High end and luxury Taipei Main Station hotels ($$$)
Note most of the luxury / 5* Taipei hotels are based in areas like Xinyi and Zhongshan. Taipei Main Station and nearby Ximending hotels are generally has 4* and below.
Palais de Chine Hotel (5*)
The closest 5* hotel to Taipei Main Station, this is within walking distance and located next to exit Y5. The Palais point of difference is the interior decor and it feels very different from some of the other hotels you get in Taipei.
There are three onsite restaurants (Taiwanese / Chinese, international and Italian) and this is one of the few Taipei Main Station hotels where some rooms have balconies.
Facilities include a gym on the 17th floor, a VIP Salon / lounge and Reading Room on the Executive Floor and a Palais de Chine Art Tour service. Guests can also make use of a free swimming pool nearby.

Sheraton Grand Taipei Hotel (5*)
There aren’t many 5* hotels near Taipei Main Station but the 5* Sheraton Grand Taipei Hotel is just 5 minutes by taxi or 8 minutes away by Metro. It is located close to Shandao Temple MRT.
As you’d expect from a luxury Taipei Main Station hotel, it has a spa, outdoor swimming pool, two gyms and several restaurants.
All rooms at the Sheraton Grand Taipei Hotel 37” flat screen TVs, room to work plus a bath-tub; Marriott Bonvoy platinum elite members can enjoy the club room on 17th floor with nice views of Taipei.

Caesar Park Taipei (4*)
Often recommended by our Taiwan Travel Tips Facebook group members, Caesar Park Hotel is one of the closest hotels to Taipei Main Station – you can access it directly from the underground station (which is amazing if it is raining or you are arriving late.
The hotel features amenities such as a steam room and fitness centre plus luggage storage service is available free of charge, which is great if you have a late afternoon flight.
There is a restaurant on the second floor plus lots of nearby restaurants and cheap dining at Caesar Mall Food Court.

Mid-range priced Taipei Main Station hotels ($$)
citizenM North Gate Hotel
We are going to go into a little more detail on CitizenM Northgate as it is currently our favourite modern hotel near Taipei Main Station.
Most recently, we paid £75 a night for a King room city view without breakfast (NT$3,100 or $97 USD). We were allocated a 7th floor room which had decent views, but there were 26 floors in total so some of the other higher floor rooms would have even better views of the city.
The location was fantastic and a short walk to Taipei Main station, the airport MRT, Beimen MRT station and also the Ximending entertainment district. If we have a late flight or early departure at the airport, we stay citizenM North Gate Hotel as you can walk to the Taoyuan Airport MRT terminus in about 6 minutes door to door.
The room is indeed compact in size (fairly standard for Taiwan), but not too small, and the WiFi was a very good speed compared to other Taipei hotels we’ve stayed in.
Each room has an iPad which you use to control the settings in the room, including different coloured lights for the shower!
There was an option to pay a small amount extra for a late checkout (2pm instead of 11am). This cost £12 (NT$500 or $15 USD) which we happily paid for as our flight out of Taipei was at 6pm.
The hotel had some awesome decor, and quirky graphic design touches.

Mayer Inn
One of the more affordable hotels very close to Taipei Main Station, Mayer Inn is a simple hotel with clean rooms (albeit some users say they are quite small rooms). It is located right next to exit Z2 of Taipei Main Station.
Mayer Inn has laundry facilities but no-onsite restaurants – however you are within walking distance of lots of eateries and shops.
Rooms at Mayer Inn range from standard doubles to Japanese style business suites and family rooms – they also cater for large groups with rooms with economy eight person rooms.

Tango Inn Kaifeng
As recommended by several of our Facebook group members, Tango Inn Kaifeng is one of the newest hotels near Taipei Main Station and about 500 metres walk away (via exit Z10). Another bonus is that it has 8 washers and dryers for laundry.
Rooms types at Tango Inn Kaifeng vary from single to quads ( 2 x double beds) and the rooms are available for extended stays.

Via Hotel Taipei Station (3*)
A 10 minute walk from the station, Via Hotel Taipei Station is a no-frills hotel with some nice touches – for instance, there is no breakfast served but they do have a free snack bar (drinks, ice-cream, chips, noodles, jellies etc) which is popular with kids.
The basement also has massage chairs and a shared lounge area – the hotel is nearest to NTU hospital MRT if you want to get the Metro there.

Roaders Hotel Zhonghua
There are several Roaders hotels near Taipei Main Station including this one, also close to Ximending.
This is a quirky Taipei Main Station hotel which some of our Facebook group members recommend for its attention to detail like free sweets and snacks plus a photo booth for selfies in the reception area.
It has a loft style feel and is a well located hotel for families with family rooms available that include nice touches like teepees and child friendly furnishings.

Greenworld Zhonghua Ximen
Although possibly more of a Ximending hotel, this is a 10 to 12 minute walk from Taipei Main Station (it depends if you’ve got big cases or not) which we’ve stayed in on a few occasions.
We like it as it is across the road from the main Ximending entertainment area plus the rooms are quite big for the Taipei Main Station area (obviously depending on your room type).
The various floors are brightly coloured and there is an onsite laundry – the one downside is the hotel is in the same building as another hotel (Just Sleep) so the two lifts can get very full / busy quite quickly at peak times like check out.
But if you just want somewhere close to BOTH the station and Ximending plus a clean place to sleep, Greenworld Zhonghua should suit you fine. The direct shuttle bus stop to Jiufen and the Hello Kitty 7-Eleven store are also very close by.

Budget hotels and hostels near Taipei Main Station ($)
Hotel Relax (several hotels)
A quick mention of the Hotel Relax hotels dotted around Zhongzheng, and all very close to Taipei Main Station.
The chain of Hotel Relax accommodations are fine for a quick stay but based on our experience at Hotel Relax III, the rooms can be quite small.
We had a breakfast box each morning which was served in reception and the room was OK with a big TV and private bathroom but the Wi-Fi was not so good. The location of their hotels is great though and all are within easy walking distance of the station.

Star Hostel Taipei Main Station
The Star Hostel has some very good reviews and has private rooms plus cheaper shared dorm beds if you are visiting Taipei on a budget. Dorm beds start from around £25 / $36 USD / NT$1,200.
A modern hostel near Taipei Main Station, it is only a 5-minute walk from Taoyuan Airport MRT Taipei Main Station (A1) and 6 minute walk from the station itself.
All room rates include a breakfast plus there is access to a shared kitchen and lounge.
Room types include double rooms, family rooms plus 6 to 8 bed dorms, mixed and single sex.

CHECK inn Taipei Main Station
A popular chain hotel with branches all across Taipei, this one is a good hotel to stay in, overlooking 228 Peace Memorial Park and about a 10 minute walk from Taipei Main Station itself.
Some of the reviews are a little mixed but it is an affordable hotel near Taipei Main Station that is likely fine if you plan to be out exploring Taipei most of the time – note that many of the rooms do have windows.

Rainbow Hotel
Rainbow Hotel is a 4 minute taxi ride or 4 minute MRT subway journey from Taipei Main Station or just over 10 minutes walk.
Travelers to Taipei like Rainbow Hotel as it is friendly on the wallet and literally right next to Ximen’s main walking street – however, some say the rooms are a little dated and can be noisy, as you are so close to the action.
