And Taipei’s Night Markets are not just about the food – as well as the atmosphere and delicious smells, many have carnival style games plus beautiful temples lit-up at night (or even something more modern like the 3D tiger billboard by Shilin Market).
From famous pork pepper buns at Raohe Night Market and Shilin to opulent oyster omelettes all around Ningxia Night Market, here is our guide to the best night markets in Taipei.

Taipei night markets overview
There are around 20 night markets in Taipei of varying sizes – perhaps the most famous night markets in Taipei are Raohe Night Market, Ningxia Night Market and Shilin Night Market.

Some of the best Taipei night markets are the ones less known to travellers like Gongguan Night Market in the Zhongzheng District, which is popular with all the local students at the NTNU campus (and students ALWAYS know cheap and tasty food).
Most Taipei night markets typically run from around 5pm to midnight and comprise fantastic food stalls, fairground style games and attractions plus live music and singers.

Whilst there are lots of meat and poultry stalls, most Taipei night markets have lots of vegetarian foods to try like tofu, grilled mushrooms, vegetable noodles, smoothie stalls, delicious veggie skewers and candied fruit.
Above all, try to visit Taipei night markets with an open mind and an empty stomach (plus be sure to try the legendary Taiwan stinky tofu – it tastes way better than it smells…).

Best Taipei night markets
1. Raohe Street Night Market Taipei
Open daily from 5pm to 11pm
Located in the shadow of Songshan Ciyou Temple, Raohe Street Night Market (饒河街觀光夜市) is one of the biggest and best night markets in Taipei.
One bite from the famous Fuzhou pork pepper bun stall at the Raohe Street Night Market and we were smitten by the place (prepare to queue though).

Incredibly busy but equally entertaining, Raohe Street Night Market is an absolute delight of a Taipei night market because the food here is sooo good and the trader’s are incredibly friendly.
We visit several times on every trip to Taipei and always see lots of random delights and so much good food to try from hundreds of stalls.

If you prefer to eat and browse without crowds, visit just after opening between 5pm and 6.30pm or after 10pm. Friday night and the weekends are the busiest.

2. Ningxia Night Market
Open from 5pm to 1am
Ningxia Night Market is one of Taipei’s top night markets and a short walk from Dihua Street.
Open 7 nights a week with dozens of Taiwan street food stalls, carnival style games and long-established restaurants on either side, you are in for a fun, foodie night at Ningxia.

Featuring delicious Taiwanese food and street food snacks like stinky tofu, fried ice-cream, oyster omelets, gua bao and grilled squid.
Ningxia is perhaps best known for the Piaoxiang Beef Noodle stall, It has a few famous food stalls that feature in several guides including Liu Yu Zi (famous for its deep-fried taro balls and cake), Piaoxiang Beef Noodle stall and the Yuen Huan Pien Oyster Omelette and Circle Oyster A restaurants, next to the market (handily open at lunch too).
You can purchase a Klook exclusive set meal voucher for Circle A Oyster >

The Ningxia Night Market is around 300 metres in length with two main lanes of stalls and food kiosks, plus lots of games and activities like ring toss and balloon popping – please note it can get quite congested (the lanes are quite narrow) on weekends and peak times

3. Gongguan Night Market
Open from 4pm to 11pm (many stalls don’t open until at least 5pm)
One of best ‘local’ night markets and possibly the most authentic, what Gongguan Night Market lacks in size is more than made up for by the amount of amazing food.
Located in a popular student area famous for its NTNU-Gongguan Campus, Gongguan Night Market is Taipei’s largest night market in the South District, within a minute’s walk of the nearest MRT stop and takes place over two parallel side streets.

These lanes of Taiwanese street food and international fare are an incredible foodie foray – when we visited Gongguan, we saw no other Westerners and it is very different (although we expect this won’t be the case much longer as it is so damn tasty).

The best stalls at Gongguan Night Market Taipei include Long Ge’s Boneless Chicken Leg Stall (stall 62), the turnover pancake (stall 16) plus Hsiung Chi Scallion Pancake (stall 48), Gongguan’s famous flaky pancake stall with a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

4. Shilin Night Market
Open daily from 4pm to midnight
The largest night market in the whole of Taiwan, Shilin Night Market is a street food lover’s paradise, with a combination of food and shopping stalls.
Easily reached via the MRT (alight at Jiantan Station), our highlight here was when we explored the underground Shilin Night Market Food Court (recently remodelled). A little overwhelming at first as various stall holders wave their plastic menu cards at you, just take a little time to explore before picking a stall to go.

We’d recommend having lots of snack food so you can visit more stalls (don’t commit to just one!), as the choice here is immense. You can also try all the regional Taiwanese food specialities like Danzai noodles from Tainan or coffin bread.
That said, a few Taiwanese people in our Taiwan Travel Tips group (TTT) have said Shilin isn’t as good as it used to be.

We still like Shilin for the overall atmosphere and experience plus it is great for kids in Taipei and shopping – but personally, we think the food quality is better at Gongguan, Raohe and Ningxia night markets respectively.
Keep an eye out for the Shilin 3D billboard too featuring a playful cartoon tiger cub!

5. Huaxi Street Night Market (and other nearby markets)
Open daily from 4pm to midnight
When we first heard this was also known as ‘Snake Alley’, we were a little bit worried but this is merely a titular throwback to the more sultry side of the area years ago (a former red light zone) before it was gentrified and began to welcome tourists.

The Huaxi Street Night Market now has lots of local family run restaurants under a covered canopy.
We’ve also been on a food tour of the Huaxi Street Night Market / Monga Night Market area with TourMeAway – check out our video below and check out the tour on Klook >
Make a bee-line to Wang’s Broth on Huaxi Street for some Taiwanese chopped braised pork belly over rice, with cabbage and bamboo shoots. This was another featured restaurant on the Netflix Somebody Feed Phil episode.

We were also blown away by the aging arcades where groups of old men were competitively playing Tetris on the street.
If you are visiting Huaxi Night Market, then also check out some of the other nearby street markets including Guangzhou Street night market, Monga night market and Xichang street night market.

6. Linjiang Night Market (AKA Tonghua)
Open 6pm to midnight
One of the smaller Taipei night markets, we visited Linjiang Taipei Night Market for the first time in late 2024, as it is very close to Taipei 101.
Like Gongguan Night Market, this is more of a local night market than tourist night market and also had the distinction of having several Michelin Bib Gourmand rated stalls including Tien Hsiang Stinky Tofu (NT$70 for a large portion) and the ‘soup balls’ (sweet dumplings) at Yu Pin Yuan Iced and Hot Tangyuan.

On our visit to Linjiang Night Market at around 7pm on week night, the market wasn’t busy and the biggest queue by far was for the Taiwan Crispy Chicken Tonghua shop (loads of locals were getting takeaway chicken, presumably to eat at home).
Other Linjiang Night Market stalls on our last visit included takoyaki balls for NT$65, kimchi pancakes for NT$69, blowtorched beef, Taiwanese wheel cakes, xiao long bao and vegan crispy sweet potato wedges for $NT40.

7. Liaoning Street Night Market
Open daily from 4pm to midnight
Liaoning Night Market is in Taipei’s Zhongshan district and we discovered it purely by chance whilst exploring one evening near our hotel – we’ve since been back several times.

Whilst not as big and bold as other night markets, we loved it as there were no tourists there and it was so photogenic – neon noir meets authentic local cuisine that smelt soooo good!
Local dishes served here include roasted duck, danzai noodles and super stinky tofu – go take some photos of the neon restaurant signs and then fill ya boots!

8. Ximending Night Market
Open from 5pm to midnight
OK, so this isn’t a proper Taipei Night Market but this foodie foray might come in handy if you are already heading to or staying in a Ximending hotel.
Unlike say nearby Raohe night market or Ningxia night market, Ximending’s night market is more of a ramshackle affair.
Night time street vendors pop up around various streets, and there is a small dedicated area of about 20 stalls on Lane 50 near ABC Mart (more on this later).

There are also a few street vendors who sell stinky tofu, hot chestnuts, chopped fruit and more using trestle tables.
The food quality is mixed in Ximending so you might want to look to restaurants or basement food courts instead. Modern Toilet is another weird and wonderful Taipei thing to try (a toilet themed restaurant).

9. Keelung Night Market / Miaokou Night Market, Keelung
Open 5pm to midnight
Although not strictly in Taipei, Northern Taiwan’s biggest night market is less than an hour away from downtown Taipei by train, bus or taxi.
Keelung is a coastal port city that has fresh and frequent supply of fish straight off the boat, making Keelung’s Miaokou Night Market one of the most renowned in the whole of Taiwan.

As visited by such famous food shows such as Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix and the late, great Anthony Bourdain’s The Layover, Keelung Night Market is a fine foodie foray.
