Keelung Ghost Festival/ Keelung Zhongyuan Festival
12 August 2026 to 11 September 2026
The biggest ghost festival in Taiwan, Keelung’s annual summer Ghost Festival has been around for over 150 years and takes place at Keelung and at the eponymous hillside shrine (雞籠中元文化館) near Keelung Tower.
And the other great news is that after several years of closure and restorations, Keelung’s Zhupu Altar (Main Altar) 雞籠中元文化館 visitor center fully reopened on 31 March 2026. See some images here in our TTT Facebook group.

This is an important Taiwan folklore festival and involves ‘purification’ ceremonies, harking back to a folklore tale that states that ghost ‘prisoners’ were first released in the 1850s and able to return to their homes.
Now locals and travellers return to the temple to take part in ceremonies and make offerings to the deities. Parades and colourful ceremonies also take place in Keelung city itself too.
Afterwards, be sure to check out the famous Keelung Night Market, the biggest in northern Taiwan.

2026 Taipei Water Festival
On until 31 August 2026
Located in Taipei’s Gongguan district, the Taipei Water Park continues throughout August 2026, Taipei’s summer.
Every day, families can splash about on slides, fountains and floats plus bring along your super soakers and water pistols – goggles might come in very handy too with all that squirting water!
Be sure to combine this with a trip to the Gongguan Night Market afterwards, one of the best night markets in Taipei, frequented by local students who know how to sniff out amazing food at inexpensive prices.
2026 Penghu International Fireworks Festival (Dragonball Z themed)
Until 25 August 2026
One of Taiwan’s biggest firework festivals, the Penghu islands illuminate across July with the Penghu International Firework Festival. There are 33 individual firework displays (the highest number yet) and drone shows set to take place across the entire festival, which runs for 4 months in total.

This year in 2026, Penghu’s fireworks are Dragon Ball Z themed with DragonBall themed drone shows too (although if you saw the news, the first drone show this year badly malfunctioned so fingers crossed it is all fixed now).
The fireworks festival in Penghu ignites several times a week and is often best watched from Guanyin Pavilion (Guanyinting), an old temple looking out across the water.

You can visit Penghu by ferry from Chiayi, or you can take a flight there.

Taipei Night Market Festival 2026
14 May to 31 August 2026
We love Taipei’s night markets and this foodie festival is just another excuse to go. Across various night markets, there will be extra activities and stalls celebrating the best of Taiwan cuisine and the heritage of traditional Taiwanese street food.

A vote will also be held to find out local residents’ favourite foods and stalls – given how good all the food is, it surely will be a difficult decision!

Many games are played at the new Taipei Dome in Xinyi. Taiwan baseball tickets start from as low as NT$400 for outfield tickets (prices correct as of March 2026).
The Taiwan baseball / CPBL games can usually be seen 6 days a week during baseball season – it is only Monday when there are no baseball games played (and the odd other day).

Enjoy the evening action on and off the field as the stands often erupt into cheers with entertainment and dancing also quite common.
