For a stylish stay in the heart of Ximending, time to stay at the SOTETSU GRAND FRESA Taipei, currently Taiwan’s only SOTETSU hotel.
One of the best hotels in Ximending, we recently had a fantastic four night stay at SOTETSU GRAND FRESA Taipei, overlooking the streets of Ximending in a huge and homely room (Deluxe Double) with many mod cons and a lovely lounge area.

Popular with Taiwan tourists and perfect for a business stay (especially with all the extras afforded by joining the Sotetsu Hotels Club loyalty program), SOTETSU GRAND FRESA Taipei Ximen is the perfect place to stay to explore Ximending and other nearby Taipei neighborhoods like Wanhua and Taipei Main Station.
With lots of onsite facilities like a laundry, massage chair and even a free vacuum sealing machine to help with your packing, there is much to enjoy here.
Here is our review of SOTETSU GRAND FRESA Taipei Ximen plus our photos. We stayed at this hotel in September 2026.

One of the most luxurious hotels in Ximending we’ve stayed in, this is a great way to start your time in Taipei – and it is VERY close to Ximen MRT station or just one subway stop away from Taipei Main Station (for MRT subway, trains, high speed rail trains and airport MRT line).

SOTETSU Hotel Group
The SOTETSU GRAND FRESA Taipei Ximen is a Japanese chain hotel that is part of the Sotetsu Hotels group (which operates around 80 hotels under five different brand names).
The SOTETSU GRAND FRESA brand is the premium mid-scale tier within the Sotetsu Hotels portfolio, designed for travellers looking for comfort without paying luxury prices.
Prior to our latest 2026 Taiwan trip, we’ve been lucky enough to stay at several SOTETSU hotels in other countries like The Splaisir Seoul Myeongdong in South Korea, Hotel Sunroute in Tokyo and their budget POCKET HOTEL in Kyoto, Japan.

All of our previous SOTETSU stays have been wonderful and we love the tech features in all their rooms, modern communal areas plus close proximity to stations and cool neighborhoods.
We were very excited to stay at Taiwan’s first (and currently only) SOTETSU hotel and our time there did not disappoint – it was also one of the best sleeps we’ve ever had in Taipei with a super comfortable bed.

Getting to SOTETSU GRAND FRESA Taipei Ximen
The hotel is literally a few steps away from Ximending’s entertainment district and the iconic Red House building.
It is also amazingly located right next to Ximen MRT Station exits 2 and 3. If you have lots of luggage, it is best to use exit 3 as it has an escalator (exit 2 is stairs only).
This station is just one MRT subway stop away from Taipei Main Station (where the main Taoyuan Airport MRT terminates), and is connected to the blue Bannan MRT subway line and the green Songshan-Xindian MRT subway line.

If you are getting a taxi or private transfer from Taoyuan International airport or another Taipei neighborhood, SOTETSU GRAND FRESA Taipei Ximen is located on the corner of a main road and a side road which makes for an easy drop off.
The hotel is around a 40 minute taxi / transfer ride away from Taipei Taoyuan International Airport or just a 20 minute drive from nearby Taipei Songshan Airport.

Checking in
Our check-in process at SOTETSU GRAND FRESA Taipei Ximen was stress free – and conveniently, you can also use secure locker storage in the reception area (complimentary) before check-in and after check-out.

There are dozens of lockers of all sizes and we could fit our big suitcases in very easily.

The reception area also has a couple of sofas, plus a freezer stocked with yummy ice lollies which are free if you are a SOTETSU programme member and you follow the hotel’s Facebook page (otherwise, you can buy the lollies for NT$50 each).

We also really loved the selection of amenities which SOTETSU is synonymous for – there is a well stocked amenity bar in the reception area with a huge range of free toiletries, wet-wipes, hair bands and more. Grab what you need and take them to your room.

Other cool features in the reception area include a free massage chair, tourist information leaflets, a small selection of gifts you can purchase, plus a rather unique feature that we haven’t seen in any other hotel before – a vacuum packing machine you can use to compress and seal your clothes.
This creates more space in your suitcase so why not buy more gifts to take home from the nearby Ximending souvenir shops?!

Our SOTETSU GRAND FRESA Taipei Ximen Room
Your home from home experience begins as soon as you arrive – we were greeted warmly by staff on the 2nd floor welcome area before taking the elevator to our 10th floor room.
We stayed for four nights in a double deluxe room type which can accommodate up to 3 people, if you also request a sofa bed. It comes with a (very comfortable) queen size bed and the room size is around 34 m² (366 ft²).

As soon as we opened the door, we knew we were in for a treat as our accommodation had a lovely lounge next to the window that overlooks the busy streets of Ximending and ample luggage storage space by the door.

Our room was light and airy with modern fixtures and fittings as standard – we are also pleased to report the Wi-Fi speed was excellent and there were lots of plug points and USB charger units.
Tech features were great including a smart in-room control tablet which allowed you to control lighting, air conditioning, music, an alarm clock and house-keeping requests.

We could watch the big flat-screen TV from bed, and pyjamas and slippers were also provided and changed daily by housekeeping staff.

There are two separate bathroom areas – a big shower and wash room complete with finely fragranted toiletries and a huge (and heated) vanity mirror, plus a separate toilet room with a small sink.
The hotel has an in-house water purification system meaning all the water was safe to brush your teeth with or shower in.

We spent many hours in the lounge area enjoying the city views, with our complimentary Taiwanese tea filter coffee bags, which we made using the in-room kettle.

Facilities at SOTETSU GRAND FRESA Taipei Ximen Room
Asides from all the excellent extras available in reception like the free massage chair and vacuum packing facilities, we made good use of the laundry area on level 3.
One of the cool features we really liked was the ability to check if laundry machines were available from the comfort of your room by simply switching to the laundry section on your TV – we could easily see when a washing machine or dryer was free and also when your washing had finished its cycle.

In total, there are three washing machines and four dryer machines at SOTETSU GRAND FRESA Taipei Ximen, all of which can be monitored remotely via your in-room TV.
We never had to queue once and the laundry machines were modern and efficient. Payment can be made via coins or EasyCard / credit card using the payment machine in the laundry. A wash costs just NT$40 and the dryers cost NT$10 per 10 minutes.

In the same room, there is also an ice-machine and microwave plus the third floor is also home to a smoking room.
We also liked the fact that each floor has its own water dispenser, which you can use to fill up the reusable water container provided in your room.

Dining at MUSASHINO MORI COFFEE
Whilst there are many excellent dining options and restaurants in Ximending, sometimes you don’t want to walk too from the hotel. The ground floor is home to the marvellous MUSASHINO MORI COFFEE, a Japanese style restaurant shown as 武蔵野森珈琲 Diner 台北西門相鐵店 on Google Maps (map).

Busy day and night with hungry diners and an extensive Japanese-Western fusion menu to suit all tastes, we dined at the coffee shop on our first morning.
We tried their signature ricotta souffle pancakes served with bacon, scrambled eggs and a zingy salad – so good (and served with your choice of tea or coffee).

Other popular dishes at MUSASHINO MORI COFFEE include pasta, curry, pizza and seafood plus a kid’s menu and seasonal specials.
The restaurant is open daily from 7am to 9pm on weekdays and until 9.30pm on Friday and Saturday – the decor is lovely too.
You can include breakfast as part of your SOTETSU GRAND FRESA Taipei Ximen stay for NT$350 per person.
PS If you fancy just a snack or cold drink, there is also a rather handy 7-Eleven convenience store located just a couple of metres from the hotel reception that is open 24 hours.
SOTETSU GRAND FRESA Taipei Ximen Summary
