How to get to Weiwuying Street Art Village by public transport
WeiWu Mi Mi Village is easily accessible by Kaohsiung public transport. To get to Weiwuying Street Art Village from downtown Kaohsiung, take the orange metro line to Weiwuying Station and alight through exit 5.
Weiwuying Street Art Village is a few steps away from Weiwuying Station and the first artwork you’ll likely see is the famous (and huge) bookcase mural by Bamboo Yang.

History of Weiwuying Street Art Village
A former military village in Kaohsiung (and quite similar to the famous 44 South Military Village in Taipei), Weiwuying is a sleepy and quiet residential area on the outskirts of Kaohsiung.

When we last visited in early 2024 during a week-day afternoon, there weren’t a lot of people around other than a congregation of families and elderly sheltering in the shade of the small square at the center of the estate (some of the card-playing looked quite ferocious though)!
After decades of decline, a Kaohsiung Street Art Festival was launched in 2016, centered around this very housing estate, in an attempt to rejuvenite and gentrify the area.

The inaugural ‘Wallriors Street Art Festival’ was held in Weiwuying almost 10 years ago (in 2016), inviting local and international street artists, painters and illustrators from all over Taiwan and the world to use the drab dreary as a blank canvas and create colorful murals throughout.

Since then, numerous new paintings and wonder wall art has appeared every year – each time you return, you’ll find something new.
It is now one of the most popular tourist attractions in Kaohsiung and a great activity to combine with Weiwuying Metropolitan Park and Weiwuying- National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts across the road.

Weiwuying Street Art Village map / walking around
If you arrive by public transport, you’ll likely alight at Weiwuying Station and the first artwork you’ll see is the famous wall of books, by Kaohsiung street artist Bamboo Yang.

It is one of the biggest pieces of street art in the local area and took weeks to complete – the juxtaposition of the books with all the mopeds and bikes parked in front is so cool.
Here you can also find a Weiwuying Street Art Village Map, which shows all the key murals and street art dotted around the village. You can see the map below:

That said, we found the best way to explore was to just wander up and down the main streets, looking for the huge apartment artworks and skyscraper street art.
Also make sure you have a look in the side-streets and alley-ways as this is where the street art changes out most regularly (as there is no need for scaffolding).

Kaohsiung’s best street art
Taiwan is known for its incredible street-art but Kaohsiung does seem to really encourage it more than any other city – from the illustrations of Pier 2 to the alley-way art of Yancheng, Kaohsiung is a cut above in the Taiwan street art scene.

This is particularly true in Weiwuying Street Art Village – here are some more photos of the biggest and best murals we saw in Weiwuying.
Please note these street art pieces were all photographed in spring 2024, so some artwork may change when you visit.
