Taiwan Night Markets are the best in East Asia. As big lovers of street eats and budget bites, Taiwan is our favorite foodie foray in the whole of Asia.
With over 300 notable Taiwan night markets dotted all over the country, the Taiwanese (and lucky tourists) are blessed with a treasure trove of tasty tidbits (even stinky tofu tastes much better than it smells!).

Most Taiwan night markets typically run from around 5pm to midnight and comprise fantastic food stalls, fairground style games and attractions plus live music and singers.
And whilst Taipei may have the most Taiwan night markets, many of the best are in coastal cities or further south.
After several trips to Taiwan, sampling oodles of noodles and other superb street food, these are our top picks for the best night markets in Taiwan.

Best Taiwan Night Markets
1. Raohe Street Night Market, Taipei
Open daily from 5pm to midnight
One bite from the famous Fuzhou pork pepper bun stall at the Raohe Night Market and we were smitten by the place (prepare to queue though).
Incredibly busy but equally entertaining, Raohe Night Market is an absolute delight of a Taipei night market because the food here is sooo good and the trader’s are incredibly friendly.
We visit several times on every trip to Taipei and always see lots of random delights and so much good food to try from hundreds of stalls.
Located in the shadow of Songshan Ciyou Temple, Raohe Night Market (饒河街觀光夜市) is one of the biggest and best night markets in Taipei. If you don’t like crowds, try to visit before 6pm or after 10pm.
Food stalls at Raohe Market Taipei include stinky tofu, grilled mushrooms, Japanese okonomiyaki, blowtorched steak cubes, sweet potato and taro balls, tang hu lau (candied fruit), pig’s blood cake and so much more.

2. Keelung Night Market / Miaokou Night Market, Keelung
Open daily from midday to midnight
Seafood lovers rejoice – behold Northern Taiwan’s biggest night market; Keelung Night Market.
Keelung is a coastal port city that has fresh and frequent supply of fish straight off the boat, making Keelung’s Miaokou Night Market one of the most renowned in the whole of Taiwan.
Easily accessible from Taipei (Keelung is a 40 minute train or bus from Taipei), signature dishes of Keelung market include Crab Thick Soup and the shrimp based Ding Bian Cuo.
Anthony Bourdain (RIP) also visited Keelung Night Market as part of his The Layover programme, which first inspired us to check Keelung out over a decade ago.
Subsequently, Phil Rosenthal featured Keelung Night Market on his 2024 Taiwan based episode of ‘Somebody Feed Phil’ on Netflix – check out our guide to all the Taipei Netflix filming & eating locations here >
Famous and top Taiwan foods to try at Keelung night market include the ‘one bite sausage’ stall (kiosk 45), seafood and grilled squid and Taiwanese shaved ice from Pao Pao Ice (stall 37).
Be sure to check out the ‘Nutritious sandwich’ store (stall 58) which is a deep fried sweet bread filled with meat, vegetables and mayo costing 60 TWD. Expect BIG queues.
We love Keelung night market so much, we’ve written a detailed guide about it here >
Please note the famous yellow lanterns you see in all the Keelung night market photos are usually only switched on from Friday to Sunday.

3. Flower Night Market / Tainan Night Garden Market, Tainan
Open Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 5pm to midnight
Chock full of sublime streetfood fare, we’d read a lot before visiting Tainan Flower Market about how amazing it was.
Whilst it was huge and very much worth a visit, it is more a case of quantity over quality as we felt a lot of the food stalls were quite similar – still, it is one of the biggest night markets in Taiwan we went too and you are guaranteed to find something good to eat.
We loved the local legend that is Tainan Coffin Bread (delicious) and the fried chicken here (Taiwanese style).
The amusement stalls here are also fun to watch and take part in, with locals trying to pop balloons with darts or win other prizes with children’s fishing rods.
We actually preferred Tainan’s Wushan Night Market over this, more on this shortly…

4. Dongdamen Night Market, Hualien
Open daily from 6pm to midnight
There are so many things to do in Hualien and we don’t just mean day trips to Taroko National Park and Gorge!
We spent around a week in Hualien in early 2024 and made regular visits to Dongdamen Night Market, an alfresco affair with a couple of hundred food stalls and kiosks.
Easily one of the best Taiwan night markets for us, Dongdamen Night Market has several alleys of food stalls, plus live entertainment, fairground style games stalls and covered eating areas.
There is so much food here, from tasty Taiwanese tidbits like grilled squid to international food stalls like Brazilian pies to German pork knuckle and corn on the cob.
There are also vegan and vegetarian stores at Hualien Dongdamen Night Market – and yes, you can buy stinky tofu too!
We REALLY enjoyed the Dongdamen Night Market coffin bread stall, where we had beef and scallion / green onion filling inside hollowed out deep fried bread for NT$65 – it is a heart attack waiting to happen but very tasty.
There have been reports that Dongdamen Night Market stall holders have been struggling since visitor numbers dropped to Hualien after the closure of Taroko National Park so please do go and support them.
The food is delicious and the night market has such a wonderful atmosphere.

5. Ningxia Night Market, Taipei
Open daily from 5pm to 1am
Ningxia Night Market is one of Taipei’s top night markets and a short walk from Dihua Street.
One of the best things to do in Taipei at night, Ningxia Night Market (寧夏夜市) is a little more under the tourist radar than Shilin Night Market and Raohe Night Market. It is full of families, couples and friends (especially on the weekends) who like to feast and play fairground games.
With the northern section of the market featuring a variety of authentic, roadside food carts jam packed together, the southern area is where to find the amusements and general trinket section.
The restaurants that run along the road are also worth a look at too and there are many that serve the famous oyster omelette. Tip – arrive early as the market is very narrow and can get extremely congested.
Featuring delicious Taiwanese food and street food snacks like stinky tofu, fried ice-cream, oyster omelets, gua bao and grilled squid, be sure to arrive at Ningxia Night Market hungry.

6. Liuhe Tourist Night Market, Kaohsiung
Open daily from 5pm to 2am
A tasty tourist treat, Kaohsiung’s Liuhe Night Market is predominantly a street food thoroughfare that lines both sides of a city block – it is a busy road by day but closed to traffic at night.
Renowned for its seafood due to being a coastal city, we visited Liuhe Night Market most nights whilst staying in Kaohsiung and sampled lots of local fare.
Popular local dishes to try whilst in Liu He night market included beef noodle soup and their take on clam spaghetti.
Unlike a lot of night markets, this is easy to navigate and impossible to get lost (unless you’ve had too many Tsing Tao beers). There is even a Taiwan 7-Eleven bar where you can drink draft beer and watch the market crowds.
There is plenty of seating down the main strip at Liuhe Night Market and it never felt too crowded – in its heyday, Luihe Night Market would often have upwards of 150 to 200 stalls, but the number post COVID seems to have dwindled a tad.
As well as street food at Liuhe Night Market, locals love to play fairground style amusements and fun games.
The prices may be a little higher than the local daytime markets, but it is still very cheap compared to western standards.
To get to Liuhe Night Market take exit 11 from Formosa Boulevard MRT station – which takes you to the eastern end of the market.

7. Feng Chia Night Market, Taichung
Open daily from 4pm to 11pm
The largest night market outside of Taipei, Feng Chia Market offers an awesome array of alleyways and nighttime nooks for your dining delights.
Combining food, drink and gift stalls, this is also next door to the local university campus, so the street food is super cheap to entice the local students.
Hundreds of stalls stretch out over 1km stretch, and the market has been going for over 60 years now – from fried chicken to sweet potato balls, succulent sweet sausages to spicy noodles and stinky tofu, Feng Chia Night Market will fill you up (just watch out for those pesky mopeds.

8. Huaxi Night Market, Taipei
Open daily from 4pm to midnight
When we first heard this was also known as ‘Snake Alley’, we were a little bit worried but this is merely a titular throwback to the more sultry side of the area years ago (a former red light zone) before it was gentrified and began to welcome tourists. The Huaxi Street Night Market now has lots of local family run restaurants under a covered canopy.
We decided to make a whole evening of exploring the local area, starting with going into the Longshan Temple before devouring our own body weight in dumplings (we know, we know…!).
Whilst we really loved this market was that it felt quite ‘old-school’ in its tastes – authentic and traditional.
Make a bee-line to Wang’s Broth on Huaxi Street for some Taiwanese chopped braised pork belly over rice, with cabbage and bamboo shoots. This was another featured restaurant on the Netflix Somebody Feed Phil episode.
Note there are other markets all within a few minutes walk of Huaxi Street night market: Guangzhou Street night market, Wuzhou Street night market and Xichang Street night market.
9. Ruifeng Night Market, Kaohsiung
Open Tuesday, and Thursday to Sunday from 5pm to midnight
Another popular large night market to visit in Kaohsiung is Ruifeng Night Market, located between the Yucheng and Nanping Road in the Buoying District (3 minutes’ walk from the Kaohsiung Arena MRT station).
We revisited in spring 2024 and it still hasn’t lost any of its street-food sparkle – although we visited Ruifang Night Market on a Saturday night so it was crazy busy (some of the aisles are really narrow so if you are claustrophobic or don’t like crowds, this one is best to avoid.
Larger than Liuhe Night Market and near to legendary Lotus Lake, hop off at Kaohsiung Arena MRT for the bevy of budget bites that Ruifeng has to offer.
Unlike Liuhe where the stalls are in lines, Riufeng has more of a community feel, with a dedicated space that almost feels like a town square (and numbers are boosted by all the tourists that visit too).
From massages to Mahjong, shooting galleries to super-fun fairground rides, this night market also has one of the largest non-food sections we’ve ever encountered.
Ruifeng Night Market food stalls include fried dumplings, grilled mushrooms, peppered conch (snails), pork pepper buns and popcorn fish – we’d estimate there are around 150 food stalls here.

10. Shilin Night Market, Taipei
Open daily from 4pm to midnight
The largest night market in the whole of Taiwan (apparently), Shilin Night Market is a street food lover’s paradise, with a combination of food and shopping stalls.
Easily reached via the MRT (alight at Jiantan Station), our highlight here was when we explored the underground Shilin Night Market Food Court – a little overwhelming at first as various stall holders wave their plastic menu cards at you, just take a little time to explore before picking a stall to go.
We’d recommend having lots of snack food so you can visit more stalls (don’t commit to just one!), as the choice here is immense. You can also try all the regional Taiwanese food specialities like Danzai noodles from Tainan or coffin bread.
Some criticize Shilling Market as being overly aimed at tourists and that the food quality isn’t so good, but tasty Taiwanese tidbits are to be had if you follow your nose (and the big queues).
It is also so sprawling that there is so much choice over several lanes, food courts and underground food halls – enjoy!
Finish your night by playing fairground stall games; it’ll help you burn some of those calories off you consumed earlier in the evening!

11. Wusheng Night Market, Tainan
Open on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 5pm to midnight.
When we returned to Tainan most recently in spring 2024, we discovered Wusheng Night Market which is open on weekends and on Wednesdays.
We really like this Tainan Night Market as it was full of life, had lots of different food stalls plus families having fun on all the fairground rides and games stalls (including archery and pistol firing).
From taro balls to top hats, mobile phone cases to melon balls, you’ll find all manner of stalls (around 300) at Wusheng Night Market in Tainan.
We’d rate this as one of our best Taiwan night market experiences and some of the food stalls included scallion pancakes, blowtorched beef skewers and South Korean tteokbokki.

12. Liaoning Street Night Market, Taipei
Open daily from 4pm to midnight
We round out our top 12 Taiwan night markets with Liaoning Night Market in Taipei’s Zhongshan district which we discovered purely by chance whilst exploring one evening near our hotel.
Whilst not as big and bold as other night markets, we loved it as there were no tourists there and it was so photogenic – neon noir meets authentic local cuisine that smelt soooo good!
Local dishes served here include roasted duck, danzai noodles and super stinky tofu – go take some photos of the neon restaurant signs and then fill ya boots!
